Position : Registered Practical Nurse
Department : Regional Dementia Care Service - Oak Lodge
The Regional Dementia Care Program provides comprehensive specialized assessment and treatment of older adults (usually >
65 years old) and / or adults with an age-related dementia, which is complicated by behavioural and psychological symptoms, and / or medical comorbidities that exceed the capacity of the community, general hospital, complex continuing care and long-term care system.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification / Experience / Knowledge :
- Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) required (recent within the last twelve months)
- Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate required
- Practical knowledge and understanding of Dementia including best practices for assessment and management of responsive behaviours
- Montessori Methods for Dementia and PIECES an asset
- Experience working with older adults demonstrating responsive behaviours including evidence of creative application of Personhood
- Knowledge of relevant acts and regulations e.g. Substitute Decision Makers, Controlled Acts, PHIPA, College of Nurses of Ontario standards of practice, etc.

Ability to work effectively with members of a multi-disciplinary team, including participation in nursing programmingExcellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with clients, families, employees, service providersUnderstanding of trauma informed care principles and able to apply within all relationships and interactionsComputer application experience required including advanced level of skill in documentationAbility to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in care planning requiredMust be willing to work shifts in other programs as requiredMust demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitorsMust support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organizationGood attendance and work record requiredBilingualism (Advanced level English / French) is an assetPay rate, benefits and other terms and conditions are as per the CUPE 139 Collective Agreement
