With an unmatched breadth and depth of engineering, advisory and science-based expertise, our global minds unite to power local solutions. We are pathfinders and impact makers. We are Visioneers. We are WSP.

The Opportunity

You’re invited to take on a leadership role as Senior Technical Manager with WSP’s Ontario Archaeology team — where your expertise will help shape meaningful projects across the province.

Your Impact

As a Senior Technical Manager on the WSP E&I Canada Limited Archaeology Team you will:

  • Lead all aspects of archaeological assessment requirements aligned with the Ontario Heritage Act, Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM) policy and regulations, other provincial and federal regulations and policies.
  • Research, prepare, and submit proposals and reports for a wide range of archaeological projects.
  • In the role of Project Manager or Project Director, oversee project scope, budgets, schedules and quality, lead client and stakeholder communications, and delegate to and support staff.
  • Provide visible leadership by promoting health, safety and security in your projects and teams.
  • Provide senior technical oversight and review of technical reports to meet MCM and WSP quality standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the Field Operations Lead to arrange internal resources and logistics for your projects.
  • Mentor archaeological staff.
  • Support business development activities.
  • Interact with senior leadership, clients, regulators and members of Indigenous Nations and communities.
  • Analyze and interpret archaeological data.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • Professional license to conduct archaeological fieldwork in Ontario in good standing with the MCM.
  • 18+ years of experience in consulting archaeology in Ontario.
  • Broad expertise in both the practice and the business aspects of consulting archaeology.
  • Expert knowledge of Ontario archaeology with an applied understanding of current Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists issued by the MCM and associated Technical Bulletins.
  • Capable of independently delivering quality work in a deadline-driven environment including making decisions on highly complex issues.
  • Proven experience in leading and mentoring employees.
  • Able to anticipate business needs, secure required resources and lead initiatives to implement changes in the organization when required.
  • Able to follow and implement both technical and safety training and instructions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in providing quality control of client deliverables and providing constructive feedback to staff regarding how to improve deliverables in future.
  • Experience designing scope and budget for archaeological projects of all sizes and complexities.
  • Strong understanding of project financial management.
  • Able to obtain Provincial and Federal Security Clearance.
  • A valid Canadian driver’s license with satisfactory driving record, per the WSP's driving policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of Ontario historical period and/or Indigenous material culture.
  • Understanding of requirements for archaeology on federal lands
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP).

Compensation

  • BC, AB, SK, NWT & NT: $132,700 – $175,800
  • MB & ON: $121,100 – $166,700
  • Atlantic Provinces & QC: $119,900 – $159,200

Disclosure

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
