The Building Automation Systems Manager will be recognised and respected as the authority on energy efficiency and building optimization within the Network Facilities and Maintenance team. The incumbent will support the management of environmental services, accreditations, and oversee all energy operational processes related to building systems, inclusive of carbon reduction, policies and guidelines.

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following :

  • Responsible for the operation and basic maintenance of the stationary natural gas / electrical power generating equipment.
  • Responsible for all applicable records, logs, reports and drawings of all applicable equipment, controls, and systems.
  • Responsible for monitoring, updating and maintaining the Business Automated Systems (BAS) daily to support company’s carbon footprint reduction.
  • Support the Capital Projects team to identify energy conservation opportunities and help prepare business cases when needed.
  • Operate automated / computerized control systems. Ensure control stations and all mechanical devices are running well and that problems are discovered before they become larger issues. Operations are to be optimized where / when possible. Where automated controls don’t exist, this will be managed through communication to store Facility Managers.
  • Maintain logbooks, maintenance forms and complete CMMS entries when required.
  • Produce reports, records of information related to operational, maintenance and safety activities in the BAS and Power Generation systems.
  • Act as a support in the event of problems or anomalies as it relates to the job on and after hours as needed.
  • Receive general alarms / trips and take appropriate action.
  • Responsible for working with the Network and Construction teams with shutdowns, drawing review, and attending commissioning orientation for all necessary training required for maintaining a completed project.
  • Coordinate the activities of external service providers as required
  • Support and monitor energy procurement opportunities and utilities commodity markets
  • Attend and participate in meetings, professional development training and all departmental orientation programs as assigned.
  • All duties outlined in the job description may occasionally be called upon to work alternate shift relief during staffing shortages or plant emergencies.
  • Keep up to date of legislation requirements and industry best practices as it relates to energy efficiency

The ideal candidate :

  • Power Generation and / or Facilities background of at least 2-5 years.
  • BAS experience of at least 3 years.
  • Ability to interpret and assess various building drawings and technical manuals.
  • Possess a well-rounded knowledge of engine, generator, and compressor performance and operations; experience with Jenbacher, Waukesha, and Cat considered an asset.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude to perform the hands-on operation of plant equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets.
  • Adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function positively in a dynamic work environment.
  • Must possess clear communication skills, as this person is expected to represent the National Facilities team in a positive manner to internal associates and external contractors.
  • Ability to drive and manage reporting with inputs from multiple stakeholders.
  • A strong safety mindset.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office products; knowledge and competence with respect to computerized maintenance management systems; use of SAP or an equivalent financial information system.
  • Regular access to a vehicle and ability to travel 10%-15% of the time.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy policies, regulations, and cyber security measures.
