As the Risk Manager in a leadership role, you will work with all City departments regarding claims, insurance and risk. Working collaboratively with others, you will investigate and manage claims involving the City, manage Delta’s insurance portfolio and identify opportunities and develop strategies to minimize risk.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Services, the Risk Manager is responsible for :
- Managing the City’s insurance portfolio;
- Reviewing contracts and insurance requirements;
- Reviewing insurance documentation from contractors and vendors for compliance with City requirements;
- Receiving notices of claim from third parties;
- Investigating claims and determining liability;
- Working with legal counsel and insurance adjusters;
- Managing claims resolution;
- Managing property claims made by the City;
- Working with senior staff from all departments to protect the assets of the City, reduce losses and minimize risk;
- Preparing correspondence related to claims handling process, risk management, and insurance coverage;
- Preparing reports for on behalf of the City Solicitor on the City’s insurance portfolio, claims and risk management; and
- Completing related duties as required.
Qualifications
A university degree with specialization in law, business, finance, economics or public administration;An insurance professional designation;A Canadian Risk Management (CRM) certification;At least five years’ work experience in risk management including some experience with government (preferably municipal government) risk and claims management;Knowledge of relevant legal framework (e.g. negligence, Local Government Act); andThe ability to communicate clearly (verbal and written), and effectively manage difficult situations in a patient, tactful and respectful manner.An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.At the City of Delta, we are committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce that is representative of our community, providing equal opportunity and fostering an inclusive workplace where our individual differences are recognized, valued and celebrated.
