Hydraulic Engineer – Kruger Inc.
Overview
The Hydraulic Engineer provides support in the development, acquisition, execution, and operation of renewable energy projects. You will manage civil & mechanical engineering tasks related to renewable energy projects. While focused on hydroelectric projects, you will lead and manage projects associated with renewable energy including existing and new hydro, wind, and solar projects. The Hydraulic Engineer reports to the Director of Engineering and provides guidance and supervision to project engineers and project managers.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage renewable power generation development and improvement projects to meet the company's strategic objectives from a civil and hydraulic perspective.
- Develop departmental engineering practices with a focus on sound engineering practices, including templates, standards and standard operating procedures.
- Review and value engineer project designs.
- Manage and support multidisciplinary engineers and project managers to successfully support project stakeholders (Business Development and Operations teams).
- Manage third‑party engineering firms, including preparing scopes of work and evaluating proposals.
- Prepare management presentations and recommendatory memos.
- Provide technical expertise to the operation and maintenance of power generation equipment at all existing renewable power plants.
- Work with other project engineers / managers in the group, as well as external consultants, to achieve assigned objectives.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering.Professional Engineer or Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, or equivalent.Experience
Relevant experience performing engineering duties in renewable energy (civil work around dams and hydro equipment desired) or industrial sectors, at least 5 years.Experience managing external engineering firms, including preparation of RFP documentation and evaluating proposals.Experience managing an engineering team is preferred.Experience preparing engineering drawings (hydro, wind and / or solar).Experience developing and maintaining engineering best practices, templates, quality assurance and SOPs.Experience preparing and reviewing geotechnical reports and foundation designs.Skills and Abilities
Thorough understanding of code requirements in Québec or other jurisdictions (Ontario, New York).Available for travel in Canada and the United States (25% of time).Team player, focused on internal and external stakeholder engagement and community presence.Good balance of technical, commercial, and human skills.Strong communication and presentation skills.Thorough understanding of project design parameters and requirements.Understanding of and experience with cut and fill plans.Understanding of environmental considerations.Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other drafting software.Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.Able to navigate uncertainty and to manage stress well.Understanding of or interest in operations would be an asset.Languages
Demonstrate proficiency in French and English, a plus.Seniority Level
