About the Role

We are seeking a Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician to join our team of engineers and sustainability professionals. This role focuses on implementing and integrating Building Automation Systems (BAS) with an emphasis on sustainability and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients to assess their automation and sustainability needs.
  • Assist in preparing quotes for BAS implementation projects.
  • Develop and review the sequence of operations (SOO) with the engineering team to guide BAS configurations.
  • Work alongside electricians and technicians to ensure the proper installation and functionality of automation systems.
  • Configure and test BAS alarms, histories, and logic to meet project requirements.
  • Integrate IoT devices and sensors (e.g., WiFi, BLE, LoRaWAN) into BAS environments for enhanced monitoring and control.
  • Create and manage integrations using JSON data formats for streamlined communication between IoT devices and BAS platforms.
  • Develop custom solutions and automation scripts using JavaScript to enhance BAS functionality and data analysis.
  • Support the creation of new automation tools and programs, focusing on sustainability and risk mitigation.
  • Contribute to developing AI and data analytics tools for BAS applications.
  • Stay attuned to evolving market conditions and industry trends, proactively identifying opportunities and challenges.

Technical Skills & Requirements

  • Software / Frameworks : Niagara 4 / N4 / AX , RC Studio, AutoCAD, Visio / Lucidcharts.
  • Cloud Platforms : AWS, Azure.
  • Programming Languages : SFC, Python, SQL, JavaScript , Ladder Logic, Visual Basic.
  • Data Formats : JSON for data exchange and integration.
  • Networking Protocols : BACnet, MQTT, Modbus, DNP3, Fox TCP / IP, RS232 / RS485.
  • Hardware Experience : VFDs, process sensors, electrical panels, pneumatic / hydraulic components, FESTO Modular Production Systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards : ASHRAE, IEC, NEMA, NBC, GMP, OHSA.
  • Experience in AI programming (an asset).
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in industrial instrumentation, BAS, or IoT integration.
  • Strong understanding of building energy systems and sustainability concepts.
  • Experience with JavaScript and JSON for automation, integrations, and data handling.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
