Arup’s Toronto office is seeking a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to support current and future infrastructure projects. Typical design tasks include shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls and support of excavation, geotechnical parameter development and ground characterization, ground-structure interaction and construction impact assessments, and slope stability analysis. The Geotechnical and Tunnels group operates as one team in Toronto, and tunnel design work will be included in the role of a Geotechnical Engineer based on project need.

Responsibilities

• Interpret subsurface conditions and understand their impact on design and construction
• Perform design and analysis using various industry standard engineering software for excavations, foundations, seismic site response analyses, slopes, and underground structures
• Conduct ground movement predictions and building damage assessments
• Perform geotechnical and tunnelling finite element analysis using modelling software such as PLAXIS, FLAC, UDEC, and 3DEC
• Carry out empirical, analytical, and numerical analyses for purposes of tunnel and shaft design for various tunnel construction methods
• Use and run subsurface information database systems
• Work in multidisciplinary teams for delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects for transportation and water / wastewater
• Observe construction site works, geotechnical investigation, and the installation of subsurface elements during construction
• Aid in the preparation of engineering design reports
