Position Summary :

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Assistant is responsible for the maintenance of DASCH residences and commercial spaces throughout Winnipeg. As a Facilities Assistant, you will be responsible for maintaining the utmost standards of functionality across our facilities with your expertise, precision and prioritization skills.

    • Role & Responsibilities :

    • Completing tasks outlined by the Facilities Manager
    • Basic drywall touch-ups, replacement, taping, sanding
    • Preparation, priming and painting of new and repaired drywall, wood and steel surface
    • Basic finish carpentry (door and window casings, baseboards, handrails)
    • Building projects such as door and window replacement, lock installation, fence construction and drop ceiling repair and installation
    • Minor electrical (replace light fixtures & cover hardware)
    • Minor plumbing (replace faucets, cartridges, toilets, sinks, plastic drain parts)
    • Troubleshooting of basic carpentry, electrical plumbing and HVAC issues
    • Small tree pruning and cutting
    • Skills & Qualifications :

    • A complete set of personal protective equipment
    • Grade 12 or equivalent and 3 to 5 years of experience in a handy person / construction role
    • Solid knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems
    • Solid carpentry knowledge and a proficiency in completing those construction tasks
    • Ability to accurately and safely operate portable and stationary power tools
    • Ability to read manufacturers instruction manuals and measured drawings
    • Complete tasks with precision and thoroughness
    • Extremely task-oriented with high standards of quality and accuracy
    • Strong follow-through on delegated tasks and assignments following established policies and procedures
    • Candidates must be physically fit and able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds
    • Willingness to take the initiative
    • Strong organization skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks efficiently
    • Full Manitoba Driver’s License and a satisfactory driver’s abstract
    • Work Hours :
    • Full Time
    • Monday to Friday
