Position Summary :
The Power Engineer - 3rd Class is responsible for providing and maintaining utility services to the Hospital.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Responsible for maintaining and repairing all equipment associated with the Facilities heating and cooling plants and other critical infrastructure within the hospital.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Operating boilers and controlling generation of a reliable and continuous supply of steam for heating hospital buildings, and supplying steam to critical equipment such as sterilizers and food service equipment.
- Monitoring boiler room to observe operating equipment, meters, and gauges to ensure that operation is in accordance with instructions and established practice.
- Proficient with Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Adjusting equipment controls to correct malfunctions.
- Recording meter, gauge and graph readings, and repair work performed in log book.
- Testing and treating water systems on the Water Treatment program.
- Performing repairs as required to maintain services to the Facilities and meet all code requirements.
- Cleaning and inspecting the inside of boilers, tanks, and pressure vessels.
- Starting and stopping equipment as required by operating conditions.
- Maintaining records which give a repair history for hospital machinery.
- Maintaining log for TSSA and insurance purposes.
- Maintaining documentation regarding equipment repairs and preventive maintenance in a CMMS.
- Requisitioning supplies, replacement parts, and equipment.
- Maintaining HVAC equipment, including filter changes, steam trap repairs, pneumatic and electrical controls, fans, dampers, and motors.
- Maintaining a steam trap maintenance program.
- Providing a call-back / on-call service as required by the hospital.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Facilities Management.
Qualifications : Education :
Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent is required.Completion of third class (3rd Class) Operating Engineeer License is required.Maintain a current C-5 Gas License from Fuel Safety Branch is preferred.Experience :
Minimum five years experience working as an Operating Engineer is required.Demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario Operating Engineers Act and Pressure Vessels Act and Regulations is required.Minimum 3 years hospital experience preferred.Competencies :
Demonstrated knowledge in operation and maintenance of plant operating systems.Demonstrated ability to work independently and without supervision.Demonstrated ability to read and understand blueprints, operating manuals, regulatory Codes, etc.Demonstrated knowledge in proper protocol for isolating building infrastructure systems independently.Demonstrated ability to accept and act upon constructive criticism to upgrade abilities.Demonstrated emotional stability, maturity, self-confidence, reliability, dependability, and confidentiality.Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions and accept supervision.Demonstrated ability to sustain pressure of work and flexibility in ordering / re-ordering priorities.Demonstrated ability to produce / handle large volumes of work in a limited time frame with accuracy and to comprehend the purpose and reason for the work in order to explain if needed, to contractors, hospital staff and outside agencies.Other :
