About the position

Role :

The Senior Communications Advisor is the subject matter expert who provides advice and guidance to senior officials on communications involving operational matters.Key responsibilities :

  • providing communications advice to senior management, partners, and stakeholders;
  • planning and supporting the development and implementation of communications products for a diverse range of internal and external target audiences;
  • writing, coordinating, managing, producing, and disseminating communications plans and products in written and digital (including online and social media) formats, regarding police operations and other matters concerning public safety.The expectation for this position is to work full time in the Edmonton HQ’s office (No Hybrid, Telework, or Compressed schedules). The RCMP Federal Policing units are responsible for protecting Canada, its people, and its interests from domestic and international criminal threats, including risks to national security, serious organized crime, border integrity, financial crime and cybercrime. A strategic communications team has been created to directly support the Federal Policing Northwest Region which includes : Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut and Northwest Territories.The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is looking for talented and skilled individuals to join our dynamic Federal Policing team. The intent of this process is to staff a position on a indeterminate basis in Edmonton, Alberta, and create a pool of qualified candidates. The pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment) in Winnipeg, Manitoba.Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.     ✅ The successful applicant will have to obtain an RCMP security clearance. The process also requires a Security / Reliability Interview, a field investigation in matters of credit / finances, education, employment, references, on-line activities, alcohol and / or drug use, etc.

    ✅If a qualified candidate has been selected and appointed on an indeterminate basis from the established pool, they will be removed from the pool. If a candidate is selected for a specified period (including term, acting, or assignment / secondment) appointment, they will remain in the pool for future offers.

  • Must work overtime on short notice from time to time.
  • Must be on call during evenings, weekends and on public holidays from time to time.
  • Must carry and monitor a mobile communications device outside of work hours when required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for work purposes, using various modes of transportation throughout the Northwest Region which includes : Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut, Northwest Territories.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and / or graphic material.

  • A wide variety of communications products refers to a minimum of four (4) products such as news releases, media advisories, media lines, internal messages for employees, speeches, social media content or communication plans for internal or external partners such as federal organizations, central agencies, stakeholders, non-governmental organizations, other orders of government, or industry.
  • Senior management is defined as a manager who supervises staff, assigns tasks, oversees workload and completes performance assessments for employees for a team of two employees or more. For candidates applying from within the Government of Canada, we consider senior management to be persons occupying level IS-05 and IS-06 positions.
