As Director, Business Informatics you will be responsible for improving clinical infrastructure, clinical reporting, business processes and critical business operational activities. You will also be responsible for executing all related strategies by directing the development, implementation, and maintenance of the business systems technical infrastructure, applications, tools and business processes as well as the clinical infrastructure and operational reporting needs. In this position you will be a key advisor to the organization on business systems, business processes and clinical analytics. You will rely on extensive clinical, business, IT, application and project management experience to plan and accomplish departmental goals and you will lead and direct the work of others.

RESPONSIBILITIES : Integrated strategy

  • Strategic oversight working collaboratively with the Senior Director, Business Informatics in the development of the annual strategic plan for business support and performance as well as the execution of tactics needed to implement the strategic plan.
  • Strategic oversight working collaboratively with the Directors, Information Technology, in the development of the annual strategic plan for business IT infrastructure development and maintenance as well as the execution of tactics needed to implement the strategic plan
  • Strategic oversight working collaboratively with the Senior Directors Finance and Clinical programs in the development of the annual strategic plan for Clinical operational reporting infrastructure development and maintenance as well as the execution of tactics needed to implement the strategic plan
  • Creates and executes strategy for driving transformational change in clinical data analytics, business data analytics, business system processes and business operational processes
  • Collaborates with business directors to drive the execution of long-range strategies to support and ensure the successful realization of corporate, operational and business strategic direction as well as the support model for clinical operational analytics.
  • Collaborates with business directors to ensure completion of budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, reporting, treasury, research and trust accounting, capital, taxation and special projects as delegated by the Executive Vice President, Corporate Services & CFO, Finance.
  • Identifies and executes strategies for revenue generating opportunities as it relates to business and business systems support. Develop revenue streams and cost improvement opportunities to the bottom line financial performance of the Network

Systems Operational Management - Technical infrastructure, Tools and Applications

  • Responsible for ensuring tactical plans developed are consistent with strategic technology objectives and corporate strategic direction.
  • Responsible for the strategic direction, development and maintenance of 35+ daily health check procedures that must be completed prior to the 7am start of each day, 7 days per week. This is to ensure all systems are fully operational and ready for use each day.
  • Responsible for the strategic direction, development and maintenance of 90+ Servers.
  • Responsible for the strategic direction, creation and maintenance of 250 SQL databases across 16 SQL database servers
  • Responsible for the strategic direction and maintenance of 10 Oracle databases across 3 Oracle database environments.
  • Responsible for the strategic direction, development and maintenance of 3 Environments (6 product lines).
  • Responsible for the technical strategic direction, installation, configuration and maintenance of 10 externally developed business applications and 28 modules.
  • Responsible for the strategic direction, development and maintenance of 5+ in-house applications.
  • Responsible for ensuring compatibility with the organizations standard desktop operating systems and applications.
  • Responsible for the strategic direction, development and maintenance of 60+ process flows.
  • Responsible for the strategic direction, development and maintenance of 70+ Interfaces.
  • Responsible for the strategic direction, development and maintenance of Security.

  • Business Operational Support

  • Leadership oversight to complete the development, maintenance and execution of budgeting processesDevelop and maintain yearly one-time budgeting templatesDevelop and execute strategies for data governance and template uploads.Build and maintain all template logic and data uploads for yearly budgeting processMaintain monthly budgeting changes ¿ template data updates and back office budgeting system updatesMaintain and keep track of changes for assigned business systems including monthly budget changesDetermine and execute business process and / or application configuration change options to support yearly and monthly budgeting process
  • Reporting, Analytics, Scorecards and Dashboards

  • Responsible for overseeing numerous data architecture, data pipeline, data transformation, data cleaning, and data quality initiatives, which drive the successful operation of the team and ensures alignment with the continuous improvement goals of Unity Health Toronto.
  • Create and maintain an advanced healthcare clinical and business data analytics team that uses rigorous methods to conduct meaningful analyses that generate data-driven insights so management can make better decisions
  • Providing strategic leadership in the implementation and maintenance of new techniques and standards for business dashboards, data analytics, metrics and reporting
  • Providing leadership, advice and recommendations to the business and clinical programs on the underlying data model requirements for future operational and performance reporting
  • Supports business and clinical programs in assessing and understanding performance indicators in order to capitalize on opportunities to drive efficiency projects
  • Develops analytics and reporting that provides meaningful information to stakeholders through enhanced reporting and analysis to promote evidence-based decision making. Ensures there is a strong ongoing process for updating and revising corporate and departmental balanced scorecards, including providing advice and guidance on how to improve the delivery and measurement of strategic objectives
  • Develops tools for measuring trends and forecasting in business and corporate performance management. Ensures that best practice strategies are implemented and that information is provided in a manner that supports timely decision making.
  • Directing the corporate business systems reporting requirements. Ensuring appropriate reporting models are developed, maintained and modified to ensure accurate and timely delivery of reporting information. Leadership oversight on the strategic direction, development and maintenance of the reporting technical infrastructure.
  • Leadership oversight on the strategic direction, development and maintenance of reports using multiple business reporting tools example LBI / Crystal, EZ Reports, Compass
  • QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management or Equivalent.
  • Accounting designation (CPA-CA; CPA-CMA, CPA-CGA, or equivalent) or 20+ years IT / business related experience
  • Project Management designation (PMP or equivalent) or 15+ years project management related experience
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of business and managerial experience
  • Minimum(15) years of experience in functional design, implementation and support of large-scale business systems.
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience using project management tools and methodologies to successfully execute large scale projects
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of SQL programming experience
  • Experience with major ERP applications required
  • Proficient in analyzing relational database schemas
  • Extensive experience developing project plans to meet business objectives
  • Extensive experience developing and managing project budgets. Excellent financial acumen with the ability to forecast and develop operational and other budgets required
  • Demonstrated experience building and developing highly effective teams
  • Demonstrated experience improving and automating business processes through the application of technology
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Products : Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and Project
  • Demonstrates broad and comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts, practices and policies with the ability to apply them in complex and / or unprecedented situations across multiple functional areas. Highly analytical so as to be able to identify gaps or address issues / pain points. Must be able to visualize, articulate, conceptualize and / or solve problems.
  • Ability to understand key data elements to measure and manage performance and to determine expected outcomes and support programs to achieve target outcomes
  • Proficiency in dealing with technology, vendors, strategies and tactics
  • Strong analytical and presentation skills. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing complex concepts / information to all levels of staff / external customers to address sensitive and other situations, resolve conflicts, motivate, negotiate / persuade others at all levels
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with and carry out the vision and direction of the Executive Vice President, Corporate Services & CFO, Finance
  • Ability to work in an independent and self-directed manner while taking accountability for own actions. Self-directed to continuously update knowledge as business and system changes occur
  • Has initiative to proactively drive business and system process improvements. Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned area and / or across multiple areas, in a timely and respectful manner required;

  • Time management and prioritization - need to be able to work on many issues and tasks with different deadlines. Must be able to work independently and under pressure with tight deadlines
