Montgomery Bus Lines has an immediate opening for a Shop Lead Hand. This is a hands-on role, responsible for the day-to-day maintenance activities of the Wingham shop. This role is also an on-call resource for Operations or the mechanic assigned to buses requiring attention. The Shop Lead Hand must achieve set standards of maintenance within budgeted costs and in accordance with company policy and procedure. The position is directly accountable to the Operations Manager, and indirectly to the Director of Maintenance for the effective utilization of shop facilities, equipment and manpower, and the maintenance, efficiency, and safety of buses serviced.

Montgomery is currently offering a $2,000 hiring bonus for mechanics! Receive $1,000 on your first pay and the remaining $1,000 following probation.

Requirements :

310T Ticket

2 - 5 years of related experience

Valid driver's license

Own hand tools

Excellent communication skills

Ability to build relationships with external suppliers, maintenance shops and regulatory bodies

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

• Assist in all aspects of maintenance as required
• Work to meet budgets and equipment forecasts
• Monitor manpower skill levels to assure operating requirements and report on performances
• Supervise the maintenance personnel
• Work with Operations Manager and Director of Maintenance to identify corrective action(s)
• Be aware of key cost areas such as warranties, consumption and inventory levels of parts and supplies
• Schedule sequence of maintenance services and semi-annual inspections on buses to optimize balances between operating requirements, downtime of revenue equipment and overall shop productivity
• Ensure compliance with other maintenance standards and policies including :

Tire condition

• Winter works
• Yard, building and mechanical equipment condition
• Record and report accident damage to equipment and any / all personal injuries
• Liaise with dispatch to ensure unsafe vehicles are not dispatched, to advise of fleet servicing requirements and to advise of maintenance items resulting from driver abuse
• Ensure the shop employees comply with company and governmental safety procedures and regulations
• Assist in equipment modifications and overhaul programs as required
• Control the day-to-day purchases of mechanics to meet the operating requirements
• Assist in establishing time standards, productivity measures, budgets and forecasts
• Ensure that employees are well-trained in safe and productive operating procedures
• Check that work orders are accurate and appropriate for work performed; clarify work with dispatch as required
• Ensure that all regulatory requirements are met in the handling of hazardous materials

Remuneration :

Wage : $32 - $35 per hour
