Your Opportunity

If you welcome a different pace of life and look for the chance to use the full scope of your clinical practice, EHS in Northern Alberta could be the right fit for you. Gain experience in our diverse northern landscape, surrounded by expansive prairie fields, bustling urban centers, lush wetlands, boreal forests, and sprawling mountain passes. Discover hidden gems, stunning scenery, and friendly people as you explore our enormous backyard in all seasons. Emergency Health Services - Alberta can offer you a career that fits your lifestyle and numerous opportunities for professional growth and development. Joining EHS means becoming a part of an exceptional team. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, EHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non‑pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Where you will be stationed : High Level is a multi‑site hub station. Casual employees are eligible to work in four local communities : Fort Vermillion, La Crete, Rainbow Lake and High Level. Located in Alberta’s most northern communities, this area is a secluded haven on the edge of untamed wilderness, where a variety of wildlife flourishes nearby. Description

As an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), you will assess emergency scenes and patients, transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities, and operate ambulances or other modes of transportation. You will treat patients by administering medications, advanced life support (ALS) airway adjuncts, and electrical therapy. You may lead the ALS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as non‑emergent transport (NET), are properly stocked and equipped. The working environment for an ACP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g., backcountry) with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. The working conditions for an ACP are also physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105 lbs while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must also endure frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods, stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, side‑carry up to 20 lbs in each hand, and assume awkward positions.
