Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Program Assistant with experience working in Mental Health settings to join the Access and Assessment Centre Team at Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre in Vancouver, BC.

As a Program Assistant in Mental Health and Substance Use with VCH, you will :

  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide administrative / clerical support.
  • Receive verbal / written referrals for new patients / clients, answer telephones and greet clients, coordinate patient appointments and respond to general inquiries.
  • Arrange meetings and attends departmental meetings to record notes or take minutes.
  • Set up and maintain filing systems, maintain timekeeping records and complete on-line purchase requisitions for equipment and supplies.
  • Type / transcribe a variety of healthcare documentation, medical dictation / consultations, correspondence, reports and presentations utilizing intermediate word processing and spreadsheet software.

ABOUT THE ACCESS & ASSESSMENT CENTRE :

Access and Assessment Centre serves as a single point of access for all Vancouver adults in need of urgent assessments and Home Health and MHSU services.

Operating 7 : 30AM to 11 : 00PM daily (365 days a year), the AAC will provide better, more easily accessible care and eliminate the need for clients to navigate a complicated system or default to the Emergency Department (ED).

Our aim is to reduce 70% of unnecessary ED visits, a reduction of 4,000 visits per year.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Grade 12, supplemented with courses in medical transcription and two (2) years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to type 50 wpm.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
