The University of Regina Sustainability Coordinator plays a pivotal role in advancing sustainability programs and initiatives to align with the institution’s strategic goals. Reporting to the Director, this role embraces a holistic approach, addressing both environmental impact and well-being, and demonstrating a commitment to considering social and economic aspects alongside environmental goals.
This position is dedicated to supporting and coordinating the University’s sustainability programs and initiatives, inspiring positive change, strengthening connections with the environment, and reducing the institution’s footprint while enhancing well-being. Serving as a valuable resource for faculty, staff, students, and the public, the Sustainability Coordinator actively contributes to cultivating a sustainability mindset within the University community.
What You’ll Do :
The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for :
- Supporting, developing, and coordinating strategic projects to ensure the successful implementation of sustainability initiatives and the achievement of key milestones.
- Assessing analytics and implementing evidence-based decision-making to track progress and ensure accountability in advancing the University’s sustainability goals.
- Collaboration and communication to ensure coordination with various units, faculties, and partners. Effective communication is key to fostering engagement and aligning sustainability efforts with broader institutional objectives.
- Compiling regular reports on the University’s sustainability performance, reflecting a commitment to transparency and accountability.
- Serving as a resource for students, faculty, staff, and the public. This engagement involves providing information, addressing queries, and promoting awareness to cultivate a sustainability mindset within the University community.

Position Requirements What You’ll Bring to this Position :
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental studies, geography, business, marketing, communications, journalism, statistics, computer science, or related fieldMinimum of 2-4 years of experience in a related field.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in the Role :
Demonstrated experience in planning events, including marketing, promotions, booking, and budget management.Experience developing collaborative and positive working relationships in complex organizations (public and private sectors) with a diverse range of partners and stakeholders to achieve common sustainability goals.Skilled in data collection methodologies and analysis, with experience in conducting surveys, interviews, and data interpretation to inform strategic decision-making and drive continuous improvement in sustainability efforts.In-depth understanding and demonstrated knowledge of environmental issues and challenges.Familiarity with the University’s goals, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.Strong commitment to sustainability principles and practices combined with in-depth understanding and demonstrated knowledge of environmental policies, initiatives, and issues.Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and proactive in staying informed about emerging trends and research in sustainability.Membership or affiliation with relevant professional associations would be an asset.Proficient in problem-solving, adept at identifying issues and implementing effective solutions to overcome challenges encountered in sustainability projects and initiatives.Proficiency in preparing reports, showcasing key findings, and actionable insights.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
