Training Facilitator – OHS Programs

The Health and Safety Trainer will deliver instructional health and safety programs to Manufacturing Safety Alliance of BC client organizations, and through regularly scheduled learning events.

As an internal subject matter expert, the Trainer will bring consistency to the delivery of high-quality programs in both in-class, on-site facilitation, and virtual instruction for both dedicated client groups and open learning public classes.

Additionally, the Trainer will contribute to courseware refreshment, incorporating timely regulatory updates and new developments in safety practices.

Key Responsibilities

Training Preparation and Delivery

  • Coordinates training schedule in consultation with the Training and Development Manager, demonstrating flexibility in meeting client requirements for urgency, location, and format across a mix of both in-person and virtual delivery.
  • Acquires and maintains a deep understanding of the facilitator materials, courseware, and trainer kits and adapts training to fit each instructional engagement and client group.
  • Establishes relationships with the clients’ key contacts for training to ensure administrative details are managed seamlessly and timely course feedback is gathered.
  • Identifies ongoing or additional training opportunities and communicates them to the Training and Development Manager.
  • Facilitates training that fully explores the depth of content while meeting the capabilities and learning needs of the participants, using appropriate examples, volume, and tone to maximize the learning environment and knowledge retention.
  • Conducts standard virtual classroom set-up with every class booking.
  • Uses courseware and participant materials in a way that demonstrates their value as learning tools and ongoing resources for participants.
  • Captures learner feedback on course evaluations post-training and identifies areas of strength and improvement and incorporates those into future training sessions.

Program Development

  • As a key member of the Training Department, participates in updating session materials, including toolbox talks, infographics, and training guides.
  • Works with instructional designers to update content and input regulatory changes as required.
  • Ensures training materials are continually optimized for the format in-class learning, virtual learning, or open learning (public) sessions.
  • Learns new courseware as it is developed and acquires competency in new course pilots and roll outs. Contributes to maximizing the content and modes of delivery.
  • Contributes to strategies and tactics for increasing visibility and awareness of our training expertise and industry awareness.

Key Relationships and Collaborations

  • Reports to the Training and Development Manager
  • Internal collaborators include instructional designers, Marketing department, and Services team (advisors and administrator)
  • External relationships with key client contacts, industry professionals, health and safety associations

Location and Travel

Based in the Fraser Valley, this position supports a hybrid of remote and office-based work

Salary Range

$74,000 $94,000, based on a combination of education and experience

Ideal Candidate

  • University degree in OHS or a Bachelor of Education degree (Adult Education preferred) with OHS certificate / training or equivalent, supplemented by a portfolio of five to seven years corporate training experience
  • High-level of competency in delivering instructor-led classroom training of both dedicated employee groups and in open learning environments.
  • Certification or credential in adult instructional techniques Provincial Instructor’s Diploma (PID), and familiarity with the principles of adult learning as a professional instructor.
  • Virtual training experience is a definite asset but not required; a willingness to learn and deliver through this training mode is essential.

  • Manufacturing or food processing industry experience or exposure in a site or safety supervisory role is desirable.
  • Proven capabilities in project management as it relates to occupational health and safety training programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of instructional skills, courseware development, and workplace learning and development.
  • Flexibility to travel within the Lower Mainland and BC is required, along with the willingness to train on occasional weekends as customer demand requires.
