Job description

The Maintenance & Engineering Manager provides leadership to the maintenance department through overseeing the development of technical maintenance systems and cultural growth of the team members.

He / she is the Professional Maintenance Pillar Leader and is responsible for improving plant availability, asset utilization, efficiency, and capability by implementing proven Professional Maintenance and Reliability Centered improvement processes. He / she ensures both reactive and proactive maintenance support to all plant customers and is responsible for department budgeting, plant capital expenditure, professional and technical development of his / her assigned salaried and hourly reports.

He / She is a promoter our of TEC Culture in the plant (Trust, Empowerment, Collaboration)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Continuous Improvement : To be the champion of Reliability Centered maintenance activities, utilizing the Professional Maintenance World Class Manufacturing techniques in driving equipment reliabilities to the highest possible levels
  • Systems Development : Oversight of the preventive / predictive maintenance systems / program development (including failure analysis and CMMS development) implemented, coached, monitored and continually improved. Ability to work within an SAP environment.
  • Change Agent : Provides leadership, through guidance and oversight, to the cultural and technical growth of the department team members. Motivates, coaches and develops a diverse, high performing and engaged team to meet established goals and build organizational capability and mindset to function within a Reliability Centred organization.

Technical problem solving : Provides technical guidance and coaching on technical problem solving through the use of WCM tools to ensure root cause of issues are identified, eliminated and sustained to improve equipment reliability and capability.

  • Maintenance : To manage the maintenance organization responsible for all plant physical assets including building, grounds, machinery and equipment.
  • Engineering advancement : To manage plant engineering activities, covering design, cost estimation, request submissions, selection / construction, and compliance with local, provincial and federal, safety, environmental, health and fire prevention standards.
  • Financial : Responsible for budget preparation, CAPEX planning and execution including department long range planning. Maintain store compliance and work flow practices.
  • Customers and contacts : Collaborates with all plant and corporate functions in the coordination and scheduling of plant repairs, equipment modifications or installations; purchasing and accounting personnel on requisitions and capital request data; and corporate engineering on special projects.

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as needed and / or requested by management
  • Lead product development, capital projects, process implementation and commissioning, and regulatory affairs

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering with P. Eng designation or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 10+ years professional experience in progressive roles and knowledge of plant engineering / maintenance disciplines, such as automated control systems, programmable logic controllers, preferably in a continuous, 24 / 7 manufacturing environment.
  • Highly technical, Multi-product manufacturing experience.
  • Operations and Capital Budgeting, Planning and Reporting experience with a strong emphasis on accurate one-month and rolling forecasts.
  • Strong knowledge of safety and environmental codes and regulations.
  • Must demonstrate successful leadership and change agent skills in a unionized environment. Demonstrated ability to influence others without direct authority.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills.
  • PREFERRED OR DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of Continuous process improvement and Lean Manufacturing methodologies
  • FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

    Prepares capital cost estimates for expenditures that support our goals and may control aspects of expenditures within the approved budget. Tender negotiations with approved vendors.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

    6 Salaried Employees, 10 Hourly Employees

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Weekend and holiday work required at times. Occasional long hours. Environment may include exposure to noise, heat & dirt / dusty conditions. Some travel may be required.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Must be able to spend a significant amount of time on plant floor. Job includes tasks that require long periods of sitting, walking, standing, working on a computer or engaging in telephone conversation. Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment necessary to comply with government and company safety standards whenever engineered methods of reducing hazards or physical requirements cannot be reasonably accommodated.
