Medical Lab Technologist (BCGEU), Microbiology

Status: Temporary, Full Time (37.5 hours per week)
End Date: 1 year upon the start date
Days of work: 6‑week rotation. Weeks 1, 3 & 5 – all Sundays (variable Monday to Friday). Weeks 2, 4 & 6 – all Saturdays (variable Monday to Friday)
Hours: Variable shifts between 6 am and midnight
Discipline: Microbiology (cross‑training in Urinalysis and/or Molecular departments as needed)

LifeLabs provides 24‑hour medical support through our Medical Science team and Medical Library, and offers teaching opportunities for college and university students.
Your Responsibilities
- Conduct a wide range of diagnostic and interpretive specimen testing.
- Prepare and process samples, ensuring accurate labeling and documentation.
- Perform, interpret and release results while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Identify incidents and non‑conformities, develop corrective action plans, and drive continuous improvement.
- Assist with the evaluation and implementation of new technology.
- Participate in problem‑solving to improve work organization and workflow.
- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and quality assurance standards.
What You’ll Bring
- College diploma or university degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent education/experience.
- CSMLS registration in good standing.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong collaboration skills in a fast‑paced team while maintaining safety, accuracy and efficiency.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and a curious mindset.
- Ability to distinguish multiple colours.
- Proficiency in MS Office and laboratory analyzers.
- Problem‑solving abilities and follow‑up on issues.
- Adherence to strict safety, patient privacy and confidentiality standards.
