Position Summary
Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Health & Human Services, and under the supervision by the Senior Administrative Specialist, and under the direction of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Access to Practical Nursing (APN) program Department Chairs and Learning Centre Coordinators (LCCs), the Learning Centre Support Assistant (LCSA) provides operational and equipment support to the Learning Centre Coordinator, BSN and APN faculty and students.
The LCSA is a vital member of the BSN and APN departments and is responsible for maintaining the Learning Centre equipment and inventory; monitoring borrowing of equipment and supplies; assisting with set-up and clean-up of equipment for weekly Learning Centre activities; and providing clerical support for ordering and receiving of supplies and equipment. - Collaborates with the BSN / APN departments to maintain a safe, operational, and learner-friendly environment in the Learning Centre.
- Assist BSN / APN faculty and the LCCs with organizing and preparing equipment and supplies for faculty and student use.
- Carries out preventative and intervention maintenance of equipment, supplies, human patient simulators, and various technology support utilized in the program in collaboration with the LCC.
- Organizes and maintains the tidiness of the Learning Centre and supply storage facilities, including annual cleaning of the manikins and all laundry utilized in the learning centre.
- Maintains the inventory of a broad range of resource materials and supplies including inventory databases for the Learning Centre.
- Provides support for researching, ordering, receiving and cataloguing equipment and supplies.
- Delivering and picking up of equipment as required.
- In collaboration with the BSN / APN LCCs, department chairs, faculty, and other LCSA, organize borrowing and lending of equipment as necessary with students, other programs at the College and with practice agencies.
- Supports scheduling of remedial sessions and drop-in bookings by students and faculty.
- Schedules external bookings of the Learning Centre and student workspace.
- Monitors student and faculty borrowing of equipment from the Learning Centre.
- Monitors student use of the Learning Centre outside of scheduled classes.
- Maintains Student Resource Library including pertinent agency documents.
- Provides clerical support to the LCCs.
- Preparation documentation, labeling of supplies and equipment for weekly Learning Centres and assessment activities.
- Supports LCCs with programing and calibration of simulation equipment (Human Patient Simulators and auxiliary simulation equipment).
- Course materials (print based and learning management system based) which includes layout design, formatting, copy, editing, and preparing course materials for the learning management system and course delivery, with updating and maintaining all term forms.
- Preparing and maintaining human patient simulators and providing technical support for faculty during all simulation activities.
- Handling all documents, including confidential materials and information in accordance with College policies and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA).
Required Education & Experience
Completion of an Office Administration Assistant certificate, Medical Office Assistant certificate or equivalent.Medical Terminology micro-credential is an asset.Minimum of two (2) years recent and related clerical experience in, organizing and preparing health care equipment and supplies for scheduled and non-scheduled simulations in a nursing Learning Centre / Health Labs.Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience in a nursing centre or equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. (for example : HCA, LPN, RPN, MOA, Simulation Technologist).Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Intermediate level of proficiency in using MS Office software including database management, development / updating / maintaining of inventory spreadsheets; with advanced proficiency required in Word; and internet / web-based applications.Knowledge of various medical supplies and equipment, and of purchasing practices is an asset.Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks, and efficiently meet deadlines.Ability to work independently, display initiative, and apply effective analytical thinking to solve problems.Ability to demonstrate effective team behaviours such as active listening, sharing, balanced participation, and contribution to shared team goals.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated ability to exercise tact, good judgment and diplomacy.Ability to accept personal responsibility to ensure quality of work, attention to details and ongoing learning.Ability to perform moderate physical activity, in lifting / moving medical supplies and equipment, e.g. strength and range of motion when working in the nursing Learning Centre / Health Labs and dealing with the specialized equipment within this space.Must possess a valid BC Driver’s License.
