Position Summary
The eLearning Solutions Architect leads technology-enabled innovation and training initiatives for eConestoga and the Online Learning Centre (OLC). The role collaborates with academic and college partners to identify learning technology needs and delivers scalable training and custom solutions. Using advanced knowledge of the Brightspace platform and APIs, the incumbent designs and implements web-based tools that support faculty, students, and OLC staff.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement, Monday to Friday, 8 : 30 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m., with one day on-site at Conestoga’s 3065 King St. E office in Kitchener, and four days remote.
Responsibilities
Custom tool design and development
- Lead the exploration, design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of custom frameworks and tools that support online and blended learning (e.g., interactive web pages, dynamic video frameworks, learning objects, games, and extensions of Learning Management System (LMS) tool functionality such as the Progress Snapshot Widget, etc.)
- Identify technical gaps within eConestoga and propose development solutions
- Create intuitive authoring tools that enable faculty to build interactive content (e.g., accordions, timelines, charts, VideoPlus) without requiring coding knowledge
- Design and develop custom LMS interfaces and widgets to enhance the user experience (e.g., My Courses, Announcements, Visual Table of Contents, Zoom widgets)
- Design and maintain a knowledge base portal that provides faculty and students with documentation for the LMS and custom tools
- Develop and maintain a technical roadmap that promotes visibility, alignment, and continuous improvement of OLC initiatives
- Provide recommendations to OLC management to support ongoing enhancement of course development practices
Training development and delivery
Independently develop and implement an annual training plan that includes a mix of in-person and online (synchronous and asynchronous) sessions, and on-demand resourcesDeliver training and consultations on educational technologies, supporting effective use across web-enhanced, hybrid, and online courses in compliance with AODA requirementsEvaluate training effectiveness using feedback and metrics to inform continuous improvement and future tool development prioritiesDevelop onboarding resources and provide tool-specific training to support effective LMS useCollaborate with vendors and software providers to support the adoption, training, and rollout of educational technologiesTechnical support and consultation
Provide in-person and virtual technical support to faculty and studentsTroubleshoot Brightspace issues and support LMS integrations, including testing, documentation, and escalation as requiredRepresentation and collaboration
Collaborate and consult with academic and administrative stakeholders to ensure online learning initiatives align with institutional teaching and learning needsRepresent the OLC at college committees, working groups, and external organizationsPresent solutions and recommendations to senior leadership and Academic ForumDeliver presentations and sessions at external conferences and events (e.g., D2L Fusion)Qualifications
Four-year degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Educational Technology, Online Learning, Learning and Development, Education, or a related field is requiredA minimum of five years of experience in educational technology, web development, interaction design, online learning, or a related field is requiredExperience with the design and development of online courses, and their implementation with learning management systems, preferably at a post-secondary levelExtensive administrative use of D2L’s learning management system and advanced knowledge of Brightspace APIs
Superior knowledge of user experience (UX) design, familiarity with instructional design for online learning, and universal designSuperior communication skills and the ability to communicate and provide training on technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences (virtually, on-site, and written material)Strong technical skills, including the use of a variety of web technologies (including but not limited to HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, PHP, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.)Demonstrated superior work ethic, initiative, and ability to work independently#J-18808-Ljbffr
