The Role
The Regional Medical Advisor works with considerable independence and is accountable to provide complex medical advice regarding the delivery medical services to patients. They work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with Defence's mission and business objectives. This position is responsible for the provision of advice to inform Defence health policy, standards and programs for Defence members across Southern NSW, the ACT and nationally.
The successful candidate is expected to support clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives that affect healthcare delivery. The role includes reviewing team and business performance and focusing on identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. They will set work tasks aligned with the strategic objectives and communicate expected outcomes.
The Regional Medical Advisor will manage increasing and complex work within an integrated workforce. They will lead and develop teams and allocate resources in a manner that delivers results in accordance with Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
About our Team
The successful candidate will be working within a multidisciplinary team of doctors, dentists, nursing staff, physiotherapists, mental health professionals and rehabilitation consultants. The team members are an integrated combination of APS, uniformed and contracted health care workers. The team works within a framework defined by legislation and policy to deliver quality healthcare to Permanent and Reserve members of the Australian Defence Force in line with the ADF Health Strategy. The role of the team is to ensure the delivery of a Defence health system that is ready, responsive and resilient.
The Regional Medical Advisor will build and maintain relationships with a network of stakeholders internally and externally. They will have the ability to recognise shared agendas and work toward mutually beneficial outcomes.
Our Ideal Candidate
This position would suit a highly motivated, specialist general practitioner, medical administrator or occupational physician with a minimum of five years of post-specialisation professional experience who has an interest in quality and clinical governance. Demonstrated interest and experience in areas such as sports medicine, mental health, occupational medicine, aviation medicine, underwater medicine and workplace rehabilitation would be advantageous.
The ideal candidate will have specific knowledge relating to the methodology, systems and procedures within the health care field and have the ability to translate strategy into business outcomes and create a shared sense of purpose within Defence. They will have extensive experience and comprehensive knowledge of clinical care and health services.
The Regional Medical Advisor will hold a current unrestricted registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and be accountable to contribute to quality assurance and continuous professional development activities to ensure currency within the medical field.
The Regional Medical Advisor will have a considerable level of communication skills to engage, coordinate and manage patients in accordance with best practice clinical standards.
