Job description

Booking Clerk / Secretary – Community Care Clinic

Salary : CAD $27.10 / hr.

Location : qathet General Hospital, Powell River, BC.

Responsibilities

  • Provide scheduling / booking, clerical and reception functions for the area.
  • Schedule and book a variety of client / patient appointments, follow‑up visits, tests and referrals.
  • Maintain appointment calendars for all designated physicians and other health care professionals.
  • Maintain and print daily schedules integrating activities from various sites as needed.
  • Rearrange schedules to meet changing demands / requests and prepare and confirm client / patient information.
  • Maintain client / patient charts entering data into a computerized system and update statistics on attendance.
  • Arrange patient transportation.
  • Provide clerical functions including typing technical and non‑technical materials, utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software.
  • Provide reception services by greeting clients / patients and directing them to appropriate areas, and respond to general inquiries.
  • Answer phone messages or forward callers to appropriate health care professional or other personnel.
  • Maintain departmental equipment, supplies and filing systems.
  • Perform timekeeping functions for designated staff as required.

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12, two years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to type at 40 words per minute.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

  • Hours of work and days off may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the Collective Agreement.
