Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

This position is responsible for providing a supportive role, working with the Registered Pharmacy Technicians (RPhT) and Public Health Pharmacists to ensure safe and accurate distribution, transportation, and delivery of publicly-funded vaccines. Assists in the management of vaccine distribution supplies in accordance with all relevant Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) standards, protocols, guidelines, objectives and current pharmaceutical industry standards.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares pre-conditioned vaccine transport coolers and packs vaccines for delivery under specific guidelines, and utilizes the refrigerated vehicle to transport publicly-funded vaccines and other pharmaceutical products.
  • Supports vaccine distribution by picking publicly-funded vaccines from the vaccine storage units and validates and references relevant details as required.
  • Supports vaccine distribution functions including participation in vaccine cycle counting, verification of thermometers, temperature documentation, and records updates.
  • Delivers vaccines and other pharmaceutical products to various locations, as needed.
  • Picks-up vaccine orders from and returns reusable vaccine and wastage to appropriate locations.
  • Provides operational support and assistance to staff at the sub-offices for the distribution of publicly-funded pharmaceutical products.
  • Acts as the primary operator of the York Region Public Health (YRPH) refrigerated vehicles to ensure safe storage and transportation of publicly-funded vaccines when business continuity plan (BCP) is activated and / or extended power outages at health care provider facilities.
  • Performs non-pharmaceutical inventory cycle count and replenishment, vaccine distribution inventory and ordering, receives shipments, and submits invoices for review and payment, as required.
  • Creates and logs program documents through records management systems
  • Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a High School Diploma or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant vaccine storage and handling protocols, standards, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated good communication skills to provide high quality customer service to clients.
  • Demonstrated ability in the Region’s core competencies.
  • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications and inventory systems.
  • Demonstrated positive customer service skills in responding to customers in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
