Position Description

Reporting to the Senior Vice-President, Mercer Mass Timber, the General Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the overall operations, driving efficiency, ensuring quality production, and fostering a positive working environment in our Penticton facility. Mercer Penticton is at the forefront of sustainable building practices, and the General Manager will be instrumental in steering the facility towards continued success and growth. The General Manager will play a critical role in advancing our commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring production targets are met while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Implement and optimise production processes to enhance efficiency and minimise waste.
  • Collaborate with department heads to streamline workflows and improve overall operational effectiveness.
  • Implement and uphold stringent quality control measures to guarantee the production of top-tier mass timber products.
  • Work closely with quality control teams to identify and address any deviations from established standards.
  • Lead and inspire a diverse team of professionals and operations employees, fostering a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to department heads, supporting their professional development and ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
  • Champion a culture of safety throughout Mercer Mass Timber, prioritising the well-being of employees and maintain compliance within all relevant safety regulations
  • Work with the management team to implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures, participate in regular safety inspections, and address any identified hazards promptly
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to drive the long-term success and sustainability of the Mass Timber Mill.
  • Identify growth opportunities, market trends, and potential areas for innovation within the mass timber industry.
  • Manage budgetary considerations, ensuring financial goals are met and costs are controlled.
  • Work closely with the finance department to analyse financial reports and make data-driven decisions to enhance profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards.
  • Stay abreast of any changes in regulations that may impact operations and take proactive measures to address them.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are met and expectations exceeded.
  • Address customer feedback and implement improvements to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within the forestry or manufacturing industry.
  • Proven experience in fostering a safety first culture and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations
  • Strong understanding of mass timber production processes and industry trends.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices and commitment to environmentally responsible production.
  • Salary & Benefits

  • The salary for this position is from $195,000 - $225,000 and is bonus eligible . Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
