The Health Care Assistant Diploma Program Instructor - Theory and Clinical Instructor will be required to contribute to the academic success of students and the program by :
- Delivering instruction that meets the course competencies and program objectives as set out in the curriculum.
- Evaluate student performance in a timely manner.
- Enhance the program by leveraging industry contacts for the benefit of students' practical training and employment.
- As a Clinical Instructor, you will be responsible for taking the students on a Multi-Level / complex Care Practicum. The instructor will be involved in teaching clinical skills to students and their evaluation of clinical skills.
Minimum Instructor Qualifications for Theory, Lab, and Practice Education Courses :
- Current unrestricted (i.e., no conditions on license or provisional registration) full registration as a licensed practical nurse , registered nurse, or registered psychiatric nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) 36; and
- Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners (e.g., completion of Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent education or previous teaching experience with satisfactory references or positive performance evaluations and student course evaluations); and
- Two or more years of full-time Canadian nursing experience (1 year 1400 hours) with relevant knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members, and current policies and procedures within residential and community care settings.
- Evidence of completion of course work in Indigenous cultural safety and humility (e.g., San’yas Anti-Racism Indigenous Cultural Safety Training or an alternative training program)39; and
- Evidence of completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC course is available on the LearningHub as part of their orientation / onboarding.
This will support a current understanding of the role of the HCA within BC.
Notes : Other faculty qualifications may be considered for the Interpersonal Communications course (e.g., an undergraduate degree in a Health or Human Services field).
Nursing work experience to include :
- Experience in working with older adults with complex health needs; and
- Experience or orientation in-home support and multi-level / complex care.
Skills and Abilities :
- Relevant industry skills and knowledge relating to the area of instruction, including ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.
- Interest in pedagogical and multi-modal education approaches is an asset.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills, including presentation and group facilitation.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students.
- High standards of behaviour, a professional attitude, and commitment to quality service.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other instructors and staff.

Pay : $35.00 per hour.
Expected hours : 30 hours per week.
