GFL Environmental is looking for Heavy Duty Equipment Technicians to join our team in Coquitlam, BC!

Applicants must be a minimum Level 3 Apprentice or Red Seal to be considered.

The job :

At GFL, Heavy Duty Mechanics play a crucial role in keeping local neighborhoods clean and safe, by ensuring our trucks and motorized equipment are up and running smoothly.  Whether rebuilding, repairing, or performing maintenance on our fleet of equipment, Mechanics are essential to our business—and quickly become our Drivers’ favorite people. Teamwork makes the dream work!

A day in the life

  • of a Mechanic :

Perform morning tasks, which may include :

Maintenance or repairs of diesel, CNG, gas and electrically operated trucks as well as associated heavy-duty equipment

Using various power tools, hand instruments and cutting-edge equipment

Completing daily reports, work orders and order necessary parts

Planning and scheduling repairs in M5 planner and procure parts

Assisting in the review of mechanical write-ups and coordinate repair schedule

Perform afternoon labor and administrative tasks, either continuing tasks from the morning or starting new ones

  • Schedule may vary depending on the day-to-day, start time, etc
  • What’s required :

    Mechanics must have :

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); technical diploma desired

    1+ year experience as a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic

    Relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards

    Follow detailed instructions, work independently and maintain accurate records

    Willingness to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform job

    Exert physical effort including pushing, pulling, bending and lifting items up to 100 lbs.

    Use fine motor coordination with arm, hand, finger and leg dexterity

    Ability to kneel, crawl and climb

    Working Conditions :

    May include exposure to dust, noise, heat, cold and fumes
