Our client is a leading provider of high-quality lumber, trusses, and building materials for residential, commercial, and multi-family construction projects. We are seeking an experienced Lumber Estimator to join our team and play a key role in supporting our clients’ projects from conception to completion. This role will work closely with sales, design, and distribution teams to ensure accurate and efficient estimates, ultimately contributing to project success and client satisfaction.

Position Overview :

The Lumber Estimator is responsible for creating accurate material take-offs and cost estimates for lumber and engineered wood products, including roof trusses, floor systems, and wall panels. This position will involve working with architectural drawings, blueprints, and project specifications to provide detailed estimates and ensure projects are completed within budget and timeline constraints.

The Estimator will collaborate with internal teams, including sales, project management, and design, to streamline project execution while maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Material Take-Offs : Perform precise material take-offs from architectural and structural blueprints for lumber, trusses, and engineered wood components. Prepare detailed and competitive cost estimates for residential, commercial, and multi-family construction projects.
  • Collaboration : Work closely with sales representatives, designers, and project managers to ensure estimates align with project needs and timelines. Source and obtain pricing from suppliers for materials and specialized components, ensuring competitive pricing and availability.
  • Blueprint Analysis : Interpret blueprints and project specifications to determine material requirements, labor costs, and other project expenses.
  • Project Customization : Create custom truss layouts and engineered wood designs in collaboration with the design team. Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements without compromising quality.
  • Client Interaction : Communicate with clients and contractors to clarify project details, provide professional recommendations, and address any estimation-related concerns.
  • Documentation : Maintain accurate records of estimates, project details, and material lists for future reference and project tracking. Leverage industry-specific software (e.g., AutoCAD, MiTek, Bluebeam) to enhance accuracy in estimating and design coordination.
  • Industry Knowledge : Stay up-to-date with industry trends, building codes, and advancements in materials and technology to provide cutting-edge solutions.

Qualifications :

  • Experience : 3–5 years of experience in estimating for lumber, trusses, or engineered wood products within the residential, commercial, or multi-family construction industry. Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural and structural blueprints. Experience with industry-standard tools such as AutoCAD, MiTek, WoodWorks, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge : Possessing a deep understanding of lumber, truss design, engineered wood products, and the overall construction process, this individual demonstrates exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, contractors, and internal teams. With strong organizational abilities, they excel at managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines. Their proactive and analytical mindset allows them to identify challenges and recommend practical solutions, ensuring smooth project execution. A high level of accuracy in estimating and meticulous record-keeping reflects their attention to detail, while their collaborative attitude fosters effective teamwork and positive workplace relationships.
  • Education : Post-secondary education in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
