Job Summary

We are currently looking for an energetic Tooling Developer who will be responsible for designing, developing, modifying and maintaining rubber extrusion dies, rubber and plastic injection molding machine (IMM) molds, rubber splicing molds and necessary tooling for specific products and applications. As a Tooling Developer, this role can be based in Toronto, ON.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Design new extrusion dies, IMM molds and splicing molds by using AutoCAD, Solid Works and flow simulation software.
  • Responsible to oversee construction and follow up of extrusion dies, IMM molds and splicing molds, trials and tracking of trials, die / mold modification to achieve final product in most rapid and precise manner.
  • Participate in engineering supervised production of new products.
  • Follow up planned projects.
  • Maintains the link between engineering product development with production, Q.C. and other departments.
  • Provide input to modify and evaluate existing processes and ancillary equipment when required.
  • Troubleshoot splicing and extrusion problems

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Completion of engineering technology course in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
  • 1 – 3+ years of hands-on experience in product design and development.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.), AutoCAD, SolidWorks and machining is required.
  • Creative thinker and good problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines.
  • Previous experience with flow simulation software is an asset.
  • Previous experience in the rubber industry is an asset.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Regularly encounters differing complex problems, which requires judgment to analyze and identify alternative course of action where established procedures / policies may not exist.

    Problems encountered are seldomly simple, but engineering in nature. There are always many possible scenarios. The incumbent can rarely rely on past events and sometimes tries to avoid doing so. The incumbent usually has to conduct in depth analysis. Work involves non-routine tasks that normally require different and unrelated methods within authorized limits.

    Travel

    Person will spend 60% of his / her time in the plant environment and machine shop requiring varying degrees of minimal physical labor. 30 to 40% travel required to provide tooling support to both our Toronto Ontario location.

    Personal safety is affected by exposure to smoke, smell and noise. Limited control of work pace and unpredictable workflow bring stress to this position.
