The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Municipal Clerk, the Coordinator, Access and Privacy is responsible for carrying out the Town’s compliance requirements of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). This includes intake of requests from members of the public, coordinating searches for records with internal staff, analyzing the documents received and carefully using judgement to determine information that can and cannot be released based on legislation, preparing response letters and managing the overall administrative process within strict legislated deadlines. This position acts as the corporate expert on the protection of personal information providing analysis and guidance to other staff on the appropriate disclosure of Town records and information to comply with protection of personal information legislative requirements. Should breaches occur, the role is responsible for managing and containing the issues prior to determining whether to file a report with the appropriate provincial authority. Finally, the position presents training for staff on the protection of privacy and prepares policies to provide additional guidance.

The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an experienced professional with a post-secondary diploma in Business Administration, Information or Library Science, Public Administration or a closely related field, master’s degree is an asset. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of one (1) year related experience in government with a demonstrated understanding of access to information and protection of privacy legislation; processes related to processing Freedom of Information requests and the protection of personal information. Completion or currently completing the AMCTO’s Municipal Administration Program, or information privacy professional certification in Canada (CIPP-C) is an asset. Knowledge of various privacy legislation that governs other levels of government as well as the private sector is an asset. The ideal candidate will have superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment, provide presentations, training and support to staff on freedom of information and protection of personal information. We are seeking an individual who is experienced with records and information management software systems for facilitating searches.
The successful candidate for Coordinator, Access & Privacy will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).
This position offers a salary range of $78,683.40 to $98,354.25 plus a competitive benefit package.
