Overview :
The Labour Relations and Compliance Advisor plays a pivotal role in supporting the organization's labour relations and compliance functions as part of the AutoCanada People & Culture team.
This position is chiefly responsible for administration of caseload and generating reports using the company’s case management software, assisting in workplace investigations, ensuring compliance with labour laws and regulations, and supporting the development and implementation of labour relations strategies.
The advisor will collaborate closely with the Manager of Labour Relations and Compliance to prepare comprehensive responses to demand letters and Human Rights complaints.
This role demands a proactive and meticulous individual capable of managing complex cases, assisting in thorough investigations, and contributing to the continuous improvement of labour relations and compliance practices within the organization.
Your day to day :
- Case Management and ReportingOversee and meticulously document all labor relations and compliance cases using the company’s case management softwareEnsure timely and accurate updates of case statuses and help prepare detailed reports on case outcomes and trendsMaintain a well-organized case management system to support efficient case handling and comprehensive reporting
- Investigations Assist in conducting detailed, impartial investigations into a variety of employee complaints, fraudulent activity, harassment and code of conduct violationsSupport the gathering and analysis of evidence, interview relevant parties, and help compile thorough investigation reportsRecommend appropriate actions based on investigation findings and ensure prompt resolution of issues.
Arrange follow up and updates post investigation for recommendation implementationMaintain accurate and confidential records of all investigations
- Labour RelationsAssist in the formulation and implementation of labour relations strategies and policiesSupport collective bargaining processes, including preparation for negotiations and drafting of collective agreementsAs needed, offer well researched quality advice and guidance to managers and employees on labour relations matters, including contract interpretation and dispute resolutionMonitor and analyze trends in employee relations and labour law to provide proactive management advice
- ComplianceHelp ensure compliance with Federal and provincial / territorial laws and regulationsHelp conduct regular audits and reviews of labour practices and policies to identify and mitigate compliance risksHelp develop and deliver training programs to educate managers and employees on compliance requirements and best practicesCollaborate with legal and regulatory bodies during compliance audits and investigations
- Advisory SupportServe as a point of contact for employees and managers seeking advice on labour relations and compliance issuesProvide support during disciplinary processes, ensuring actions are fair, consistent, and legally compliantAssist in the resolution of workplace conflicts and facilitate mediation sessions as needed
To apply you’ll need :
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Labour Relations, Law, or a related field
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in Human Resources, workplace investigations, labour relations, compliance, or a related field
- Bilingual French would be considered an asset
- In-depth knowledge of labour laws, regulations, and compliance requirements
- Excellent investigative and analytical skills, with keen attention to detail
- Proficiency in case management software and ability to generate comprehensive reports
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
