Duties And Responsibilities

The Future Learning Lab Program Coordinator has a complex and diverse set of responsibilities. Working with minimal supervision, the incumbent coordinates the programs and services of the Future Learning Lab (FLL). The incumbent provides programming and services associated with experiential learning, skill development, innovation in education, grants and an environment where learners, instructors, community partners and staff can collaborate and partner. The FLL also includes a large common space with flexible furniture, as well as three enclosed learning ‘labs’, which include experimental spaces for teaching, immersive and multimedia classrooms.

The incumbent is responsible for assisting with the design, implementation, administration, and coordination of the programs under the FLL’s mandate, including experiential learning and community engaged pedagogy (CEP), innovation and immersive learning, and other projects as assigned. Working both independently and as part of TLS, the incumbent is responsible for the administration and delivery of communication of academic initiatives in the FLL including providing advice to the student and faculty population about university policies, procedures, regulations, requirements and deadlines within the scope of the position. The incumbent supports events that are held in the FLL facility and coordinates, along with other TLS staff members, the logistics for these events. The incumbent is also responsible for supporting and advising the Teaching and Learning Services leadership team with respect to the administration of these initiatives and the development of new initiatives related to the mandate of the FLL.

The incumbent is responsible for assisting with the operational administration and development of policies and regulations related to the FLL facility and adjacent rooms. The incumbent assists in coordinating the duties for the part-time student reception and support staff while they are assigned in the FLL by assigning duties and ensuring operational procedures run smoothly. The incumbent develops content and maintains the FLL website and social media channels, guided as required by TLS Communications Officer.

The FLL Program Coordinator is a team member within Teaching and Learning Services and as such works and is supported by teams and programs of Digital Learning, Learning Spaces and Teaching Excellence and Innovation. The incumbents work closely with the FLL stakeholders, including the Library, ITS, Student Affairs, Research and other services to ensure that the FLL mandate is realized.

This position specifically administers the Students as Partners Program (SaPP) and the TLS undergraduate research initiative (I-CUREUS).

Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational skills and project management skills;
  • Strong research and reporting skills;
  • A clear understanding of both administrative and academic procedures;
  • Budget administration skills;
  • Ability to work with and troubleshoot innovative technology;
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and website software, including the LMS (Brightspace);
  • Must possess strong problem-solving skills, as well as good judgment, initiative, resourcefulness and conflict resolution skills;
  • Interpersonal skills, such as diplomacy, sensitivity, tact and discretion;
  • Ability to work under pressure, to communicate effectively (verbal and written); to establish priorities; to recognize the need for change and to develop plans and recommendations for change where necessary;
  • Ability to present effectively to groups, including students, faculty, senior management, donors and external guests;
  • Excellent communication skills, including the use of social media to raise the profile of the FLL, and engage the Carleton community in its activities and programs.
  • Education And Experience

  • Four-year university degree
  • Three years of related experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
  • Experience with the assistance of policy and program development and administration

    Health and Safety Requirements

    This position is regularly required to work on campus in person. If required to work remotely, you will be notified by your manager when working full time physically onsite will resume.
