Job description

At Queen Margaret's School, we are committed to creating a nurturing, dynamic, and inclusive environment where our boarding team acts in loco parentis, offering a "home-from-home" experience for our students. As House Director, you will play a pivotal role in leading a community of 40-50 boys, ensuring that each student feels valued, supported, and empowered to grow both personally and academically. You will be at the heart of fostering a positive culture where students can build lifelong connections while benefiting from a tailored approach to their academic, social, and emotional development.

In addition to your responsibilities within the house, you will contribute your expertise in other impactful ways outside the boarding house. This could involve taking on a teaching role with a reduced course load, serving as a specialized sports coach, or engaging in other areas that contribute to the school community. This dynamic and rewarding position not only allows you to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people but also offers you the chance to further develop your leadership, management, and professional skills in a supportive and collaborative school environment.

Experience and Qualifications :

  • Student Welfare & Support : Extensive experience managing student behaviour, providing guidance and mentorship, and handling issues with sensitivity. You should have an in-depth understanding of adolescent mental health and the challenges facing young people today.
  • Educational Setting Experience : A minimum of 3-5 years working in a boarding school or similar educational environment, with the ability to support students academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • Leadership & Management : Proven leadership experience in guiding teams, managing student welfare, and ensuring efficient operations within a busy school environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills are essential.
  • Qualifications : A Bachelor’s degree is required, with certification or eligibility for certification with the British Columbia Teacher Regulation Branch (BCTRB). Alternatively, equivalent qualifications in related fields (e.g., sports coaching, counselling, youth work) will be considered.
