About the Position
Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator (and Manager of Business and Community Services), the Summer Sportz Coach is responsible for the planning and delivery of day‑to‑day sport programming for children in a group setting. This person is also responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in their group. The incumbent will provide high quality sport instruction, facilitate program activities for participants that focus on authentic and enjoyable sport experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Understand and execute all camp policies and emergency procedures.
- Assist the Camp Programmer in orienting campers to rules and expectations.
- Lead and motivate campers, encouraging learning and skill application.
- Supervise group activities and transitions to ensure camper safety and accountability.
- Manage check‑in and check‑out procedures.
- Provide weekly progress reports to campers, highlighting development and growth.
- Plan and deliver lesson plans aligned with the camp curriculum.
- Facilitate activities promoting physical, mental, and social development.
- Utilize diverse teaching techniques such as discussions, demonstrations, and guided discovery.
- Communicate with parents effectively, addressing concerns promptly and seeking support when needed.
- Support the development of each camper's skills and abilities while identifying individual learning needs.
- Exhibit responsible, ethical, and professional conduct consistently.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and litter‑free campsite.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you need to Succeed
Pursuing education in Recreation and Leisure, Sport Management, Child and Youth Studies, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.Current Standard First Aid with CPR‑C certification.NCCP Coaching Certification (minimum requirement : NCCP Community Initiation).High Five : Principles of Healthy Childhood Development Certification.High Five : Sport Certification.Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (as per the City’s procedure).Experience playing and / or coaching in at least one of the following sports : Paddling, Kayaking, Canoeing, Pickleball, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Tennis.Previous experience working with children and youth in a camp, school, recreation, or sport environment.Demonstrated ability to lead engaging skill‑building activities in a safe and supportive manner.Strong customer service, planning, organizational, and communication skills (written and oral).Salary and Benefit Information
$21.48 - $22.33 (2026 rate) plus OMERS pension is available
