Job Description
AECOM is hiring a Systems Engineering Manager to join our growing Transit & Rail Systems team in Canada. This role will support the delivery of major, complex rail programs while expanding our technical leadership capacity in anticipation of upcoming projects across the country. This is a newly created position.
This role can be based in Mississauga, Markham, Calgary or Edmonton.
The Systems Engineering Manager will play a senior leadership role in planning, executing, and governing Systems Engineering activities across multidisciplinary rail and transit programs.
Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
Lead and manage Systems Engineering activities across all project phases (concept, design, implementation, testing, commissioning)
Provide technical direction and leadership to interdisciplinary engineering teams
Report Systems Engineering progress and risks to senior leadership (Project Technical Manager / Director)
Interpret and execute complex multi-disciplinary engineering scopes
Maintain technical coordination with internal and external stakeholders (clients, suppliers, subcontractors, assessors)
Work independently under broad objectives, exercising professional judgment
Supervise, mentor, and develop engineers and technical staff
Core Systems Engineering Responsibilities
Develop, review, and approve Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMP), Requirements Management Plans, and V&V Plans
Lead and coordinate :
Requirements Management
Interface and Integration Management
Configuration Management
Technical governance and assurance
Manage requirements processes from customer capture through design, verification, validation, and acceptance
Lead development of system specifications including :
Functional requirements
System architectures
Interface specifications
Establish and maintain traceability across system requirements using requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, JAMA)
Coordinate integration dependencies across disciplines and suppliers
Lead engagement with Independent Safety Assessors (ISA), Technical Authorities, and auditors
Support evidence-based engineering and progressive assurance activities
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
Minimum 8 years of experience in Systems Engineering and Rail Systems
At least 5 years of direct experience delivering Systems Engineering activities on railway or transit projects
Strong working knowledge of requirements management tools (DOORS, DOORS NG, JAMA, or equivalent)
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Ideally 15+ years of experience in Systems Engineering and Rail Systems
Practical experience applying standards including :
ISO 15288 / ISO 29148 / ISO 24748
IEEE 1220 / IEEE 24748
EN 50126 / IEC 62278 / NFPA 130
INCOSE CSEP or ESEP certification
Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensure or eligibility for registration
Strong understanding of :
Configuration management
Change control
Governance frameworks
Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent)
Excellent stakeholder communication and leadership skills
Additional Information
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $170000 to $220000.
