Acts as an in-charge of leading tax engagements, including planning on-site client meetings and proactively coordinating the communications between the teams, clients, consultants, and managers / partners.
Identifies tax technical issues, researches and develops a plan, provides a solution, implements the plan, and prepares a memo, a client memo.
Identifies, develops, and implements strategies for clients to capitalize on business and tax opportunities. This includes preparing & reviewing tax reorganizations and reviewing corporate, trust and estate tax returns.
Participates in the planning of the tax sections for review and audit engagements.
Reviews tax sections and related tax disclosures of assurance files.
Prepares election forms for corporate re-organization and implements working papers along with instruction memo.
Assists with CRA audits.
Independently reviews T1s, T3s, T4s, and T5s and prepares the most complex filings.
Reviews tax sections of Assurance and Enterprise files and provides coaching and training for less experienced staff.
Conduct review of the team's working papers prior to submitting them to the Manager.
Promptly identifies significant tax opportunities for discussion with the Manager, Senior Manager and / or Partner.
Qualifications
3 - 5 years' working experience in public accounting practice preferably in a tax role.
Certified Public Accounting (CPA) designation.
Ready to enroll in the In-Depth Tax Program
Knowledge and application of general accounting principles (GAAP), IFRS, ASPE, Income Tax Act
Ability to identify and resolve technical tax accounting issues.
Has 3-5 of public accounting experience, preferably in a tax role
Proficient with MS Office, specifically Excel and Word
Excel ability to create complex formulas, VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data analytics.
Knowledge of CaseWare, CaseView, Jazzit, Taxprep, Taxnet Pro or other tax research platforms
