Wood is recruiting a Material Controller - Offshore Adhoc (Casual / Temporary) to join its Operations team focusing on the oil and gas petrochemical industry. This opportunity is offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, working on an as needed, call‑out basis.
The Role
- Location : Offshore Newfoundland and Labrador
- Site / Office based : Terra Nova FPSO
- Hours of work : 12 hours per day
- Rotation / work pattern : Call out, as needed
- Required : Site‑specific medical, drug and alcohol testing
- Unionized position : Rates follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement
Responsibilities
Technical Duties and Essential Functions
Follow all company and site‑specific safety rules and always work within the Company’s Safety Program. Maintaining behaviour‑based safety essentials and adherence to the Life Saving Rules. Understand and respond accordingly to all safety alerts, warnings, hazards, etc.Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Able to adequately comprehend and communicate using the English LanguageListen and communicate effectively and respectfully. Work as a part of a team, under the direction of a supervisor. Maintain motivation to work safely and productivelyRead and interpret instructions and documentation to plan work activities. Prioritizing tasks to meet the overall needs of the project. Expedite the flow of materials to certain areas when requiredReview production schedules and related information. Communicate with department supervisors to determine material requirements to identify overdue materials and to track material needsRequisitions material and establishes sequential delivery dates to departments, according to priorities and material availabilityLoad and unload materials, using safe work practices and acceptable rigging proceduresUsing critical thinking and organizational skills to minimize double and triple handlingUnderstand and follow customer material specifications. Preserve materials in accordance with customer requirements and manufacturers recommendationsExamines material delivered to production departments to verify conformance to specificationsTrack and record materials movement, accounting for all project related material. Utilizing computer programs for accurate trackingRecord materials deliveries. Accounting for overages, shortages and damagesAssist in the ordering of materials if required. Informing stakeholders of long lead items or materials deliveryMove materials to required location, utilizing equipment (forklift) when required. Only employees who have been deemed competent will be permitted to operate equipmentPerform other duties as requiredQualifications
Expected
Relevant experience in industrial construction and / or materials handling and coordination is requiredFamiliarity and knowledge of common materials used under a variety of trade disciplines is requiredAbility to understand project schedules and communicate with project management regarding potential materials related issuesEffective communication skills (written, oral and computer)Computer experience : Microsoft Excel and other functions of Microsoft Office Suite are required. Other project management software, such as Imperium, SAP, Convero and Oracle are not required but considered to be an assetCurrently authorized to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is requiredPhysical Requirements
Must pass a site‑specific drug and alcohol test, as required by the customerMust be able to safely lift and carry up to 50lbs
Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified aboveAble to move and work in confined spaces, following proper protocolWill be required consistently to work 12‑hour shifts performing physical labour in varying temperature extremes and conditionsMust be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework, utilizing proper fall arrest procedures when required. Able to safely and comfortably work at heights without posing a danger to oneself or othersAble to meet physical requirements of frequent walking, climbing, standing, bending, twisting and crawling for the duration of the shiftTraining / Certifications (considered assets)
