Job description

Organization Overview

LDS - Learn. Develop. Succeed. is a growing, innovative, research-based, educational nonprofit serving children, youth and adults with diagnosed or suspected learning differences such as dyslexia and dyscalculia and other brain-based differences like ADHD and ASD.

LDS offers individualized, evidence-based, and technology-embracing programs that target student-specific learning needs. Our growing programs and services operate throughout BC online, from our Learning Centers in East Vancouver and North Vancouver, at in‑school locations, and in our mobile classroom.

We provide affordable programs to ensure that all children have an opportunity to realize their full potential. We support learners with early intervention and at all stages of the development cycle, leading to profound, positive changes in student learning and life outcomes. We are scaling up our organization and services to effect system change with material and wide-ranging societal benefits.

We are a diverse group of inspired, dedicated and caring professionals making a significant impact in the lives of the learners, families and the communities we serve. We seek new skills, energy, and talent to grow our team, deepen our impact, and advance our mission.

Purpose of Position

LDS has an engaged group of volunteer advisors and committee members who offer their time and expertise to our team and families. They help provide strategic guidance and oversight to ensure the organization’s goals and objectives are met efficiently and effectively. Volunteer committee members and advisors contribute to strategic discussions, help shape program development, and provide valuable community or industry insights. Their expertise and insights are vital in fostering a sustainable and thriving environment that aligns with the organization’s mission and community needs.

Deliverables and Duties

LDS believes in the value of diverse experiences and expertise when making decisions and fulfilling our mission. With that in mind, our advisors and committee members contribute to our organization’s advancement in several key areas:

  • Regularly attend committee meetings, actively participate in discussions, and provide constructive feedback; LDS has the following committees: Advancement, Communication, Education, Innovation and Operations
  • Offer insights and expertise to help guide the organization’s strategic planning and decision‑making processes.
  • Assist in the development, review, and refinement of organizational policies and procedures to ensure they align with the goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Leverage personal and professional networks to forge partnerships, enhance community relations, and attract new opportunities for the organization.
  • Participate in fundraising activities, advocate for the organization’s mission, and help increase its visibility and financial resources.
  • Help monitor the effectiveness of programs and initiatives, and suggest improvements based on measurable outcomes and feedback.
  • Act as an ambassador for the organization at public events, conferences, or within the community to promote its mission and achievements.

What We’re Looking For!

We’re currently recruiting new advisors and committee members to strengthen our team’s diversity of expertise, professional experience, and perspectives.

Knowledge in any of the below would be a strong asset:

  • Educational management
  • Fundraising, donor solicitation, development, and cultivation
  • Finance systems and automations
  • Digital strategy and technology advancement – LDS is proud to be a technology‑embracing organization
