Duties

  • Visitor Services Attendants are key front-line ambassadors for Thousand Islands National Park. They welcome visitors, provide information, and help maintain the quality of park facilities.
  • Greeting and orienting visitors in both official languages.
  • Verifying camping reservations and assisting with visitor registration.
  • Operating point-of-sale systems to sell passes and merchandise, and processing payments.
  • Monitoring visitor compliance with park rules and regulations.
  • Performing routine cleaning and groundskeeping of park facilities.
  • Operating vehicles and / or watercraft to access park locations.

Work environment

Located in the Thousand Islands region, the park sits in the corridor between Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa. The park offers boating, camping, hiking, and day-use experiences on the mainland and island locations. With many visitors stopping for a visit each day, this can be an energetic work environment. Members of our visitor experience team can anticipate frequent and varying interactions with the public. We have a team that is passionate about their role as ambassadors of Thousand Islands National Park and the region, helping visitors connect with nature.

Possession of a valid class G Driver’s Licence

The position will require the incumbent to :

  • Stand for extended periods (50-100% of the day)
  • Wear a Parks Canada uniform and / or PPE and abide by uniform policy
  • Perform certain physical tasks as per job requirements lifting and carrying up to 30lbs
  • Willingness to work and / or travel in varied terrain, isolated locations, variable weather conditions
  • Be exposed to fluctuating, unpredictable visitor demands and requirements
  • Work shift work, and / or evenings, and / or weekends and / or statutory holidays and / or provincial / territorial holidays
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain Occupational Health and Safety and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System training
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain Quality Visitor Experience Training
  • You need (essential for the job)

    Education : A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

    Experience :

  • Experience providing customer service or interacting with the public in a reception or orientation setting.
  • Experience addressing public inquiries, resolving complaints, or finding customer focused solutions.
  • Experience performing cleaning or routine maintenance of facilities or grounds.
  • Experience handling cash or processing financial transactions.
  • Abilities :

  • Communication : Communicates clearly and effectively with visitors and team members.
  • Teamwork : Works safely, respectfully, and cooperatively within a team environment.
  • Independence : Works effectively with minimal supervision and takes responsibility for assigned tasks.
