About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Psychologist is a member of a highly collaborative interdisciplinary chronic pain team providing services to adults and their families. The Psychologist provides leadership and support for the WZ chronic pain team in the development, delivery and evaluation of evidence-based, chronic pain care, within the biopsychosocial model. The incumbent will collaborate with other members of the team to triage patient care, while providing assessment, diagnosis, consultation, and psychotherapy.  The ability to conduct both individual and group treatment is required. As well, the incumbent will be required to work collaboratively with family physicians and other service providers and community agencies in the context of providing care. The successful candidate will be required to participate in quality improvement initiatives including peer supervision processes for ongoing clinical development.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following :

  • Masters degree from a recognized, accredited program in Clinical Psychology
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners (NSBEP)
  • Minimum of two years related clinical experience including 1 year minimum of clinical experience with chronic pain required. (Less experience may be considered)
  • Experience working in a Primary Health Care environment preferred
  • Advanced psychotherapy skills
  • Experience with research and delivering education is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to use a client- / family-centered approach
  • Competency in the use of psychological testing
  • Demonstrated experience conducting both individual and group psychotherapy, including brief therapy
  • Demonstrated experience in development of group psychotherapy programs
  • Ability to complete biopsychosocial assessments
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
  • Ability to reach a joint formulation with the client and family
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, public, community partners, primary care team members and other professionals and agencies using verbal, written and computer communication means

    Hours

  • Long assignment full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Hours include days and may include evenings and weekends
  • Travel to various sites may be required
  • Compensation and Benefits

    50.18 - $62.73 Hourly
