Wills, Trusts & Estates Paralegal
Location : Surrey, BC
Employment Type : Full-time
Level : Intermediate to Senior
Salary Range : $70,000 $85,000 + benefits
Our client, a well-established and highly respected British Columbia law firm, is seeking an Intermediate to Senior Wills, Trusts & Estates Paralegal to join their Surrey office. This role is ideal for an experienced paralegal who is comfortable independently managing files and working directly with clients on complex and sensitive estate matters.
The Role
This position provides substantive paralegal support across estate planning and estate administration files, with some exposure to related corporate matters. The successful candidate will be confident running files from start to finish and supporting lawyers with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Wills, Trusts & Estate Planning
- Drafting and preparing Wills, Powers of Attorney, Representation Agreements, and family trusts
- Preparing documentation for alter ego, joint spousal, disability, and Pecore trusts
- Managing committeeship applications
- Reviewing client instructions and ensuring accurate implementation in estate planning documents
- Coordinating execution and witnessing of estate planning documents
- Maintaining and organizing estate planning files and precedents
Estate Administration
Preparing and filing Probate and Administration applications and supporting materialsAssisting with estate administration, including asset identification and valuationManaging resealing applications, where requiredLiaising with executors, beneficiaries, financial institutions, trust companies, accountants, realtors, funeral homes, the Public Guardian and Trustee, and court registriesPreparing Executors Accounts and managing files through to final distributionQualifications & Experience
Paralegal diploma or certificateApproximately 79+ years of experience in wills, estates, and corporate law within a law firm or professional services environmentStrong working knowledge of estate planning and probate proceduresExperience with corporate and real estate matters related to estates is an assetComfortable working directly with clients on confidential and sensitive mattersExcellent attention to detail and accuracyStrong written and verbal communication skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF; experience with legal document management and accounting systems is an assetAbility to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and run files from start to finishCompensation
