RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct routine patrols of campus buildings and grounds to support the safety and security of the Ridley College community
- Monitor academic buildings, residences, rentals, and event spaces to ensure appropriate access and usage
- Lock and unlock facilities in accordance with established protocols
- Respond to fire alarms, medical calls, and other emergency situations
- Support emergency procedures including evacuations, fire watch, lockdowns, and related response activities
- Enforce campus parking and traffic policies and assist with traffic management as required
- Identify, investigate, and respond to unauthorized access, suspicious activity, or safety concerns
- Interact professionally with students, staff, visitors, and community members, providing customer service and campus support
- Serve as a visible, approachable security presence and assist with special events and after‑hours activities
- Operate security technologies including video management systems, access control systems, mass notification tools, and two‑way radio systems as directed
- Complete detailed and accurate incident reports, daily occurrence logs, and related documentation in a timely manner
- Communicate relevant information to on‑duty security team members and escalate as appropriate
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Campus Safety and Security or designate
QUALIFICATIONS
Two‑year diploma in Law & Security Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceValid Ontario Security Guard Licence issued under the Private Security and Investigative Services Act (PSISA)Valid Ontario G‑Class Driver’s Licence or higherCurrent CPR and First Aid certificationAbility to obtain and maintain a clear Vulnerable Sector Check as a condition of employmentExperience in security, campus safety, or a related role is considered an assetDemonstrated ability to apply sound judgment and remain calm when responding to emergencies or stressful situationsStrong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to complete clear and accurate reportsEffective interpersonal and de‑escalation skills, with a respectful and service‑oriented approachAbility to work independently as well as collaboratively within a security teamWorking knowledge of, or ability to learn, security technologies and systems used in a campus environmentCommitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity in a school community settingEFFORT
This role requires sustained attention, sound judgment, and the ability to respond calmly to incidents or emergencies. Physical demands include frequent walking, standing, stair climbing, and working outdoors across campus in all weather conditions. The position may require directing traffic, setting up signage, and responding quickly to situations during long or overnight shifts.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed across a large, multi‑use campus with both indoor and outdoor environments. Conditions vary based on weather, time of day, and operational needs. The role includes rotating shifts covering days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, with extended hours required during events or emergencies.
Security Guards are designated essential staff and are required to report to work during school closures, emergencies, or adverse weather conditions. The role may involve working alone, in low‑light areas, and occasionally managing situations involving verbal or physical aggression.
RATE OF PAY : $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
