Trycewell Partners has been engaged by a growing construction company to recruit a highly capable Accounting Technician to join their finance team.
This is a hands-on role for someone who understands how job costing, payroll, and billing actually work in a construction environment. You'll work close to the business, supporting live projects and collaborating with Operations to ensure job cost data, billing, and financial reporting are accurate and reliable. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this role plays a key part in maintaining strong job cost visibility, clean billing, and a smooth month-end close.
Responsibilities
- Process and review accounts payable with accurate job and cost code allocation
- Support accounts receivable, including billing, collections, and reconciliations
- Prepare and submit client billing packages in line with contract and client requirements
- Set up and maintain jobs and projects in the ERP system to support accurate billing and job
- cost tracking
- Compile billing documentation including timesheets, change orders, and third-party
- invoices
- Coordinate billing approvals with Job Supervisors and Operations Management
- Submit approved billings through client portals or email and follow up on rejections or
- disputes
- Support construction job costing, including correcting misallocations and investigating
- variances
- Assist with payroll processing and ensure labour costs are accurately job-costed
- Support month-end close including accruals, reconciliations, and reporting
- Prepare and maintain Excel-based reconciliations, trackers, and internal reports
- Work collaboratively with Operations to resolve discrepancies and improve processes
Qualifications
A minimum of 3 years of experience in construction accounting or a job-costed environmentStrong understanding of construction job costing principlesExperience working within an ERP systemAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, and reconciliationsExperience supporting or processing payroll in an hourly or construction environmentHigh attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently, prioritize effectively, and follow established processes
