The Internship opportunity

As part of Deloitte’s journey of reconciliation, it aims to foster meaningful and lasting relationships, working with Indigenous Peoples, clients, and communities from coast to coast to coast as part of its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

This Internship is part of its commitment to the RAP’s Inclusion pillar to offer First Nations, Inuit, and Métis youth with an opportunity to explore a possible career in public policy and research.

This opportunity is a joint commitment with Indigenous Youth Roots’ (IYR) Centre for Indigenous Policy and Research (CIPR), hosted by Deloitte’s Future of Canada Centre (FCC) The selected student will complete a paid, full-time summer work term (starting May 2024).

You will get to work closely with the Indigenous Public Policy Lead at the Future of Canada Centre (virtual) on the day-to-day, who will offer mentorship, guidance, and support throughout your summer term.

About the team

The Future of Canada Centre (FCC) is Deloitte’s thought leadership and public policy program. It provides students with a variety of opportunities to develop their research, analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as pursue their policy and research interests.

The FCC facilitates exploration of new ideas, viewpoints, and insights about our country’s most important national issues, with the aim of helping propel Canada into a new age of growth and competitiveness.

The FCC conducts original research and develops thought leadership focused on Canada’s competitiveness and prosperity.

The team also shapes Deloitte Canada’s public policy positions and strategies to ensure Deloitte is a leading voice on pressing policy issues.

What will your typical day look like?

As a Policy Analyst, you will work with team members from both Indigenous Youth Roots’ CIPR and Deloitte’s FCC to help develop and deliver public policy insights for both organizations. This could include :

  • Supporting the coordination, research, and development of the Voices of Indigenous leaders on reconciliation reports and other policy documents;
  • Conducting quantitative and qualitative research on Indigenous public policy issues;
  • Supporting inclusive engagement with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis youth, and collaborative projects in partnership with Indigenous Youth Roots;
  • With team support, preparing your own thought leadership piece to share with organizational leadership

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and policy professionals. You will also work with relevant experts and practitioners and may also engage with business and other leaders across Canada.

You are someone who :

  • Self-identifies as Indigenous in Canada (First Nations, Inuit, or Métis)
  • Is working towards completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree, preferably in political science, public policy, Indigenous studies, business, economics, or a related field
  • Has demonstrated curricular or extra-curricular interest in public policy, advocacy, Indigenous relations and / or community-building
  • Is intellectually curious about the most pressing issues and opportunities facing the country
  • Is organized and able to synthesize and communicate information in a clear and concise way
  • Is proficient in MS Office applications, specifically PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Priority will be given to applicants currently engaged with Indigenous Youth Roots (IYR) or have participated in one of its programs or events
