Just HR is seeking an Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Specialist for an immediate, high-impact role with our client in central BC. This is your chance to contribute to a critical project that supports the development of major operational assets. In this role, you'll take the lead in designing hazard-specific programs, supporting serious safety incident investigations, and providing expert safety consultation and coaching. You’ll also spearhead individual safety projects, ensuring a proactive and robust approach to workplace health and safety.
This is a 6-month contract with a strong possibility of extension, offering a 14 / 7 or 10 / 4 rotation schedule. Responsibilities :
- Reviews safety procedures and risk assessments for employees and contractors, ensuring compliance and promoting safety.
- Identifies gaps in procedures, revises or develops new ones for activities requiring occupational safety expertise.
- Refers independent contractors to external resources for procedure development.
- Consults with internal / external experts on complex or unique safety scenarios, including emergencies.
- Provides guidance on internal safety standards and WorkSafeBC regulations; consults with senior specialists for deviations.
- Reviews new safety equipment and processes, assessing safety impacts and ensuring compliance with standards.
- Ensures regular worksite inspections are conducted, recommends corrective actions, and communicates audit results.
- Offers ongoing safety consultation, coaching, and support on various topics, fostering strong client relationships.
Requirements :
Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health from a recognized post-secondary institution.Minimum two years of experience in technical / trade roles within operations, maintenance, construction, manufacturing, healthcare, or similar industries.CRSP designation is an asset but not mandatory.Proven ability to lead and execute stand-alone projects, with experience implementing safety programs on large industrial construction projects.Skilled in field coordination, problem-solving, hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC operations and regulations, WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and other federal safety regulations.Familiarity with Occupational Safety and Health Standards, Safety Practice Regulations, Power System Safety Protection, and Work Protection Practices.Expertise in recognizing, evaluating, and controlling confined space hazards, along with incident investigation procedures, first aid regulations, and requirements.Experienced in policies, procedures, and standards related to trades in plant operations, heavy construction, power line, thermal trades, telecontrol, or related industries.Knowledgeable in project management principles and practices, with strong safety advocacy skills.Valid BC Driver’s Licence required.Compensation :
