The successful candidate
will work directly with the Inclusive Education Lead.Typical Duties : Support families and caregivers with providing opportunities for youth in the Beyond the Classroom program in the community.Deliver innovative and creative programming to meet the individual needs of children and small groups of students in relation to Program goals, individual and / or the Beyond the Classroom program.Develop activities and opportunities, in coordination with our Inclusive Education Lead for students in the Beyond the Classroom program to build functional literacy and numeracy skills.Provide feedback and develop lessons and activities for students in the Beyond the Classroom program on how to prepare for real world experiences after high school.Provide assistance for students, including those with disabilities, in the Beyond the Classroom program in preparing for, finding, and participating in work experience and community placements / programs.Connect students with volunteer opportunities.Provide guidance to students as they navigate social situations.Work with one or more students at a time on a regular basis.Reinforce social and personal skills. Reinforce strategies and skills (e.g. learning, memory, organizational) that have been taught to the student. Assist in monitoring supplementary work and independent study in areas relating to life skills, academic related tasks, and transition plans for students in the Beyond the Classroom program.Provide assistance in the implementation of individual program plans.Support and promote healthy lifestyle choices.Record, observe, and chart student performance (attendance, participation, behavior, etc.).Participate in parent-teacher conferences upon request. Desired Education and Experience : High School Diploma is requiredCompletion of a Child and Youth Care or Social Work Program; or equivalency is preferredStandard First Aid Certificate is preferredTraining in SIVA, Non- violent Crisis Intervention or equivalent is recommendedRelated training or experience with children at-risk is an assetAll individuals wishing to apply are asked to submit a resume, along with 3 references.
