ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the organization’s financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and effective payroll and compliance processes. This is a hands-on role with exposure across general accounting, AP / AR oversight, payroll support, budgeting, and audit preparation, working closely with senior finance leadership.
RESPONSIBILITIES
General Accounting & Month-End
- Oversee the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close
- Ensure accurate classification and recording of AP and AR transactions
AP, AR & Payroll Oversight
Support AP processes, including cheque runs, approvals, and cash-flow considerationsOversee AR processes, invoicing, collections, and responding to account inquiriesMonitor aged receivables and follow up on overdue balancesAssist with bi-weekly payroll processing, pension contributions, and related reportingInternal Controls & Compliance
Review and strengthen internal controls to ensure compliance with policies and regulationsRecommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and mitigate riskGovernment Reporting & Audit
Prepare and submit required government filings accurately and on timePrepare audit working papers and liaise with external auditors during year-endBudgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
Support annual budgeting and financial planning in collaboration with other departmentsPrepare forecasts, variance analysis, and financial projections to support decision-makingREQUIREMENTS
CPA designation or in the final stages of completion5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with exposure to full-cycle accounting and payrollStrong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (not-for-profit experience is an asset)Experience with accounting systems and payroll platforms (NetSuite and ADP considered assets)Advanced Excel and strong overall MS Office skillsHigh attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple prioritiesExperience in non-profit or real estate is considered an assetProfessional, discreet, and service-oriented communication styleCOMPENSATION
