Our client is a manufacturer of high-speed packaging machinery.
Job Title : Journeyman Welder
Dayshift : 7am to 3 : pm Mon to Fri (overtime after hours)
Location : Brampton, ON ( / Orenda)
Payrate : up to per hour to start
Department : Production
Reports To : Production Manager
Permanent after 3 months of probation
PRIMARY PURPOSE
JOURNEYMAN WELDER is responsible for production welding, service and repair welding, prototype building, and fitter welding.
Other responsibilities include the fabrication of custom prototypes from supplied drawings, fabrication of custom jigs and fixtures to produce production parts, as well as the fabrication of metal structures using jigs and fixtures in a fast-paced production environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate for the journeyman welder position will have demonstrated adept knowledge of various hand tools and equipment required to manufacture metal products.
The journeyman welder will be required to assist the Machine Builder’s Department with their insight and knowledge of manufacturing methods and may also perform random maintenance.
Other responsibilities include being able to read and understand production drawings, blueprints, work orders, and other written instructions.
The JOURNEYMAN WELDER is responsible for :
Reading and interpreting blueprints or welding process specifications.
Operating manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW),plasma arc welding (PAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxy-acetylene welding (OAW) resistance welding and submerged arc welding (SAW).
Operating manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
Operating brazing and smouldering equipment.
Operating metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears, and other metal straightening / bending machines.
Repairing part of metal products by welding on extra layers.
Maintaining safe work practices.
Assisting with the development of repair estimates.
Conducting technical inspections.
Conducting repairs, modifications, and retrofits.
Preparing input for various management and log reports.
Reviewing blueprints and specifications, ensure drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment.
Keeping detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
Other assigned work as required.
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
Qualifications and Requirements :
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
Minimum five years experience as a Welder
Valid welding certification, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding
(SMAW) certified in all positions.
Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills (other languages an asset).
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with little-to-no oversight.
Excellent common sense, decision-making abilities, interpersonal and analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with staff, management, customers, and suppliers and work as an effective team member.
A commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
Valid driver’s license preferred.
Strong MS Office Suite skills Excel, Word, Outlook)
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Travel is required between branches and facilities.
Overtime as required.
Safety equipment required steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses, etc.)
