Description
The Special Education Department has a one full-time ( FTE), 11-month School Counselor vacancy.
This position will support the Special Education Department in its collaborative efforts to improve student learning and ensure quality instruction for students with disabilities.
Examples of Duties
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following :
- Monitor grades, credits, course of study, and GPA’s of all students on caseload.
- Advocate for the high academic achievement and social development of all students.
- Collaborate with the case manager and attend IEP’s for students in NPS.
- Interpret and manually transcribe non-public schools grades from in and outside of California.
- Act as the testing coordinator for CAASP, ELPAC, FAST and PE Fitness, etc.
- Serve as the liaison with comprehensive sites in dual enrollments for student’s enrolled in non-public schools.
- Collaborate with non-public staff on graduation pathways toward an A-G Diploma, Essential Diploma, and Certificate of Completion.
- Promote shared responsibility for students through graduation pathways.
- Provide diverse quality professional development to school teams, non-public school staff and parents.
- Engage actively in inter- and intra-departmental professional development.
- Serve as counseling resource to students, staff, parents / guardians, administration (California Education Code, Section 49600).
- Valid driver’s license to travel to various schools within and outside district boundaries.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified applicants must have a valid California Pupil Personnel Services in School Counseling credential.
Applicant's credential must be attached to their application and registered with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing by the close of the posting.
A minimum of three years of highly successful counseling experience within San Diego Unified School District is required.
Experience across diverse educational settings to deliver supports and services to students with IEPs is preferred with knowledge of district and state-wide assessments.
