The Corporate Services Branch is seeking an individual with strong problem-solving and communication skills to fill a key position as a Health, Safety and Training Coordinator. In this role, you will promote and ensure ministry compliance with The Saskatchewan Employment Act, and regulations, including continuous improvements to the ministry’s health and safety programs.

As a Health, Safety and Training Coordinator, you will :

  • Develop safety policies, safe work practices, safe operating procedures and safety bulletins to ensure compliance with legislation, codes and industry standards;
  • Facilitate the implementation, administration, and review of ministry safety programs;
  • Research best practices, design OHS strategy, policies, programs, and change initiatives for work performed by all ministry staff, identifying, addressing and mitigating risk, injury and legal consequences;
  • Assess and perform needs analysis for safety training requirements respecting ministry operations;
  • Support and assist managers, supervisors and staff with workplace hazard identification, risk assessments and the development of Job Safety Analysis (JSA);
  • Coordinate the investigations of incidents, ensuring effective investigation procedures for all incidents and recommend appropriate corrective actions;
  • Provide advice and interpretation of various legislation (i.e., Saskatchewan Employment Act, Traffic Safety, standards (i.e., CSA), codes (i.e., Fire Code), safety policies, safe work practices and safe operating procedures to managers, supervisors, workers and Occupational Health Committees to ensure compliance.

Typically, the knowledge for this position would be attained through an Occupational Health and Safety diploma or certificate from a post-secondary institution or other safety-related training. An equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating a high level of problem-solving and communication.
