Job Description
The Locomotive Mechanic will work independently or in small team environments repairing and servicing various types of locomotives.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Inspects locomotive, diagnose issues, make recommendations as to course of action and repair/recondition as needed
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections on locomotives in accordance with company and regulatory standards
- Track all inspections and repair/maintenance work performed; completes all required logs
- Repair and replace components including engines, braking systems, wheels, bearings, couplers, fuel systems and other components.
- Perform major mechanical repairs and engine overhauls.
- Interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Maintains and cares for all work areas, vehicles, and tools used to perform the locomotive and equipment servicing
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
- Ability to independently plan, organize, and prioritize workload
- Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated experience in heavy equipment repair.
- Ability to lift/push/pull a minimum of fifty (50) pounds and to maneuver in/through/around equipment easily and safely
- Ability to meet Workplace Safety & Health standards
- Proficient with tools, test equipment and safe shop practices
- General computer skills with ability to learn new processes
- Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Ability to work indoors/outdoors in all weather conditions
- Willingness to address emergency service problems at any time of day or night
Education & Experience
- Diesel, automotive or heavy equipment experience.
- Experience working in heavy industrial environments and with similar equipment
